And finally, I stripped about a half inch of unnecessary bono from this fender I plan on tapping the dents out and refinishing it with much less bondo.

I got it at the Charlotte auto fair from The Truck Shop. I got it for $150, they ran out of them and I got the display model. Almost all vendors carry them and they typically go anywhere from $185 to $225.

I ordered a door hinge rebuild kit from GMC pauls. I couldn't believe the stock bushings were plastic! The kit uses metal bushings. The pins were universal for 67-87 so they were too long. I hit them with a grinder to trim them.

The rear fenders are still on the truck. I bought the fender to replace the one on the truck now (it has holes covered with bondo)

Looks good. Be careful when you go to paint your truck with that spray can paint on some of the edges. Alot of times it will wrinkle when you hit with paint that is catalyzed.

Wow, lookin good man. Slow progress is better than no progress. I feel your pain on not having a garage of your own. Which is why my truck still sits in the yard waiting for someone to rescue her.

Thanks for the tip. I plan on sanding the edges and hitting the whole truck with some good primer (something like PPG and it will be with a real paint gun). If I had more time/money I'd love to paint the door jams and interior the same color as the outside of the truck, but since it was already spray can "royal blue" I left it that way The exterior color is going to be Maui Blue.

I used some goodmark fenders on my 76 camaro, and they fit really good. I see the truck metal seems to fit good too. Nice job.

I wasn't able to do much this weekend, but I did manage to clean up and get my innner fenders ready for paint. The underneath will be coated with Rust Encapsulator tonight and the tops will be primed. I'll wait until I get them to columbia before I spray the tops so they don't get all messed up.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

Ok fellers, calm down, the grill IS NOT for sale But I'm open to offers.... let's start the bidding at $300.... No seriously, it's not for sale I was shocked at how pristine my grill was. I found two dings in it smaller than a pencil eraser and only an 1/8" deep. I still need to drill out the rivvets to take the inserts out to clean them. I think I'm going to paint them white. The back is as nice as the front but I was too pooped to finish it yesterday... I also washed the Z71, cleaned my place up, and ran 3 miles!

Nice truck you got going there. I live in Easley, SC. I'm doing a 71 C-10 short fleetside with a 68 front clip, wood floor in the bed. Maybe we can plan a visit to discuss and view our projects.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

My project is in Columbia, so it will be a while before she is in greenville (hopefully august???)

I got the grill back on the truck and primed. I got the cowl installed and shimmed and it looks pretty darned good. STILL not happy with the hood alignment. I'm going to have to tweak it some more. (I wasn't happy with the hood alignment with my "stock" fenders either, maybe my hood is f'ed up???) I got some adjustment tips on it, but didn't have time to try them.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

Went to columbia again. The weather wasn't very cooperative this weekend, oh well, we need the rain. I didn't do a whole lot that would look cool in pics, so I didn't really take any this weekend. I got the hood finally aligned to where I was ok with it, I think my hood is a little tweaked, but I was able to bend it up some to get it to fit better.

I sanded down, cleaned and primed the door jams and window areas. I cleaned up the used window parts and coated them with rust encapsulator. I then had the fun pleasure of trying to install all of the window stuff without messing up the window area. I even used the "taping" method and STILL put a couple chips in the primer. I forgot how much a pain in the arse installing windows was. I got them in with all new seals and they roll up and down nicely.

I got the inner fenders in as well. AFTERMARKET INNER FENDERS SUCK. At least mine did. I bought them about 8 years ago. I never got them to fit right with my stock fenders, and the don't fit quite right with my repop fenders either. On the bright side, they do look nice around the wheel opening....just don't look under the truck I'm sure the quality has improved since 8 years ago.

The final thing I did was wire wheel out all of the old sealant around the drip rail and the line at the back of the cab. It got a coating of rust encapsulator and new sealant.

I'll be taking a few weeks off the truck to recoup physically and financially. I hope to be performing a "bodywork marathon" memorial weekend (fri-mon) and have the truck IN COLOR that monday. That would be the cab and front end only, the bed still needs a good bit of work.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

OK OK, so I didn't do anything TO the truck this weekend (I know there's a lot of you picture junkies out there....because this thread has almost $1,500 hits) Anyway, I do have an update! I picked up the paint and primer for the truck this weekend. I got a gallon of each (paint and primer) and it should hopefully be enough. The primer is a general purpose high build/bare metal primer that can be painted over.

The paint color is going to medium blue metallic. The guy tried to help me find "maui blue" but was unable to locate it If this color looks as sweet on the truck as it does in the paint book I'm going to be very happy. The paint is going to be a "one step" urethane paint. I got the paint, primer, a good prep, some tach rags and a couple other paint supplies for $315. Wohoo! 2 more weeks!

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

I took friday off from work and headed to columbia with the intent of painting the cab and front end on the truck. I spent a couple days leveling out some areas along the cab. I then hand sanded the whole truck in prep for some primer. I also took the bed and fenders off. The bed looks tiny without the fenders on it. You folks in the rust belt may not want to view the following pictures. Please don't get upset with me for having rust free original cab corners. I'm from ellery, NY, so I know all about missing cab corners and toyota truck frames breaking in half while driving down the road from rust

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

Here's a few shots of the blazer tank (recently installed) and my LMC dual exhaust kit which was installed 2 years ago, and yes, it is very tightly squeezed in there. If it looks to be just kinda "hangin there" that's because it is. The hangers bolt to the cross member under the bed.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

Here's the bed and the old fenders I'm not going to be using. That is not rust on the bed either, that is clemson orange clay. It's hard to wash a truck in primer, ya know? I am saving the fenders, so they are NOT for sale
