Unhappy Help!!

My name is Jonah I am new to this forum, and I am trying to troubleshoot a problem me and my pop have been having with our truck for quite sometime. We have a 1970 C10 Pickup, 350, has a set of headers, flow masters, and not too long ago we put in a 700R4 on the floor. I mainly drive this truck 95% of the time, as my pops will drive it the other 5% of time. This truck has been a dream since I was little to be able to drive it all the time, I drove it during high school minus the time taken during fixes or time in the shop. This truck means a lot to me and it's a way of anti depressant for me, nothing soothes me more then going for a cruise in my truck. I'm in college now and I was unable to bring my truck with me, but I want to go home and bring it back up to college without worrying if I can make it back.

The truck will bog at low RPM's, for instance at a stop sign and then getting off the brake and getting on to the gas it'll struggle till I build up to about 30mph. Or cruising around 35mph and doing a pull the truck will lag for a couple seconds and then kick. That's one problem.
Second is that when I would drive it for a period of time (running errands around town) the truck would just shut off. I would have to kill the ignition all the way, then turn the key and she would start right back up. Now this at times was really dangerous for me, and I would not want that to happen on the highway.
We have tried to deal with vapor locking in different ways, such as putting a high-rise intake manifold for more airflow, and putting on a electric fan that is manually controlled in the cab. We have had the distributor tweaked with. The carb is fairly new. So personally I don't know if it's the wiring, or something with the fuel system. The carb is not starving for gas at all.
I hope someone can give me some ideas or tips on what to try so we can solve these couple of issues.

Tell us some specifics about your engine. Is it stock? Which carb is on it? Which distributor do you have and what tweaks did you do to it? Where is your timing set at? Are you sure there are no clogged fuel filters or clogged, twisted lines?

What distributor are you running? I would start by verifying the timing. You should be at 8 to 12 degrees initial timing (depending on where in NM you live; higher altitude calls for more timing) with the vacuum line disconnected and blocked off.

What carburetor do you have? The next place I would look is the accelerator pump. With the engine off and the air cleaner removed, look down the primaries of the carburetor as throttle is applied. You should see a fine squirt of gas coming from the accelerator pump.

The issue with it cutting out sounds like an HEI module that's failing, but that's only if the distributor has been replaced with an HEI unit. If that's the case, replacing it is pretty easy, but make sure you use the heat sink compound under it when you install it, or your new module won't live long.

What type of carb? Quadrajet? Holley? Edelbrock?

I apologize for not replying back when I said I would, I got caught up with homework and I never made it back home yet. I know the carb I am running is a Edelbrock 600 CFM with the manual choke. I am unsure of the distributor I am running in the truck, I may be able to find the receipts to see if the distributor is in the info. My pop did send me pics as attached above. Hope to hear from all y'all soon!

Seriously, listen to these gents and they will walk you through your truck troubles. They are great at teaching and really know their stuff ! Sometimes "doing it " is the best way to learn !

did you change the jets on th edelbrock for high altitude? that might be one of the problems, but I a gree that that it sounds like the module is failing. ive got a extra module here you can have, youll just need to get the compound that you slather on underneath it for protection from heat

Let us know what your timing is set at. Which distributor do you have, points or HEI? I can't see your pics either. Again, check for a clogged fuel filter, or clogged or twisted lines. Make sure the rubber hoses aren't worn out.

For your vapor lock problem, which intake manifold are you running? Edelbrock carbs percolate fuel and need a heat insulating gasket between the carb and intake. The Edelbrock 9266 gasket may be what you need depending on your intake.

You'll need to get a carb calibration kit also so you can fiddle with jetting and step-up springs. The Edelbrock 1487 is the one that works for your carb.

Another note....these carbs are finicky with fuel pressure. They do not like more than 6 psi or they like to flood. Edelbrock recommends a fuel pressure regulator set at 5.5 psi, or their performer rpm fuel pump. You may want to check float levels too, just to be sure they're set right.
