tailgate interchange?

I See In Some Catalogs A Blazer Tailgate Is The Same From 73-91, While Others Show 73-77 And 78-Up. Will A Newer Tailgate Bolt On Without Any Issues Onto My 73? My Tailgate Has A Rip In The Steel On The Top Lip In The Center, And Want To Make Sure I Find One That Will Work
Also, What Causes These To Rip Like This, So I Can Avoid Having It Happen Again?

Yes, they are all interchangeable. You can also swap a pickup tail gate on.

The blazer gates often rip at the corners, this is due to the window components being attached mainly to the outer skin and flexing over time fatigues the metal, short of not driving it there isn't much I know of that would stop it from happening again.

Re: tailgate interchange?

I would be pretty sure they are all the same too. I put a gate off of an 85 on my 77 with no issues if that helps dispell any of the rumors about the break in years you list.

Obviously, the pick up won't have a window glass but it still "fits"?

Re: tailgate interchange?

The difference is in the skin. GM put a rib across the upper portion that wasn't on the early K/5s. Pickup gates can be "made" to work on a K/5 with a soft top that doesn't use the glass. I have the rare '73 GMC gate I was going to put on my '85 Jimmy with soft top

Literally every K5/Jimmy I have ever seen is ripped in those corners, the '89 Jimmy and the '82 K5 I own are both ripped, both sides.
