There is a thread just for posting all the craigslist finds. The board was getting really cluttered with all the craigslist ads being posted.

So Jerry, after a few more months(years actually, but who's counting when you want things done right!), I will finally be firing her up. I'm thinking in approx. 2-3 weeks, so I'll have to swing by to show her off to someone that appreciates these trucks as much as I do. Or if you happen to be Discovery Bay feel free to get in touch and stop by!

boy o boy do i know the feeling, my 69 suburban has a new motor sitting in it-this will be the third summer- that i still haven't fired up yet. now i have to pull all the plugs and lubricate the cylinders prior to firing it to break in the cam. it has exhaust on it and nothing is open to the elements but the builder said to be safe i should lube the cylinder walls first. hopefully this spring sometime !!!!!!

Re: if only I had the time... 72 K10 on CL on the West coast

Like yours, mine has been garaged, exhaust on. What would be used for lubricating the cyls.? Lloyd's gave me a bottle of zddp and also (not sure if they gave it to me or I bought it) some Red Line break-in oil additive.

Also, I was thinking of running regular oil instead of synthetic from the start but still not sure. I plan on staying with whichever I start with, just not sure which would be better in the long run.

Re: if only I had the time... 72 K10 on CL on the West coast

this is just my .02 but marvel mystery oil is good for lubing dry cylinders. Id run Dino oil in it if it were mine.(assuming it's an old school small block) the synthetic seems to leak more in my expierence in the older motors that were made for real oil. They've run on Dino oil since the small block was born in '55, nothing wrong with still using it.

you can't beat marvel mystery oil for lubing the cylinders before stating. we use break in oil at the shop, not just the addative, it's more expensive but worth it for breaking in the cam. we used the addative once and flattened the cam during break in. luckily Mike stood behind it, he even sent one of his guys to pull the motor and go through it again AND re-install it in our customers truck. we use red line break in oil from o'riellys here in brentwood.

Re: if only I had the time... 72 K10 on CL on the West coast

O'Reilly's didn't have any Redline, although they do have Royal Purple. The only break in oil I found on Redline's site is their racing oil, is [URL="http://www.redlineoil.com/Products.aspx?pcid=1"]this what you are using?/URL]

Thanks
