Blazer GVWR

I took my Blazer to the weigh scales today because I wanted to know how heavy it was. It's a 1970 4X4 with a softopper, and it tipped the scales at 4700LBS empty and with a full tank of gas. I checked the metal plate affixed inside the door opening to see what the gross registered weight of the truck was, and was shocked to see that it was 5000LBS. Technically, if I have more than 300 lbs of cargo (including occupants), I will be legally overwieght. I wonder why the factory gave these trucks such a low GVWR??

Re: Blazer GVWR

I had my 71 2wd blazer weighed by Ridetech at the street rod nationals, it came in at 3600lbs. That was without the top, aluminum LS6 engine, 4l60e, aluminum wheels and a few other things that weighed less than factory. I think the original "curb weight" was about 4400lbs.
