adding booster

i have a 70 gmc with drums all the way around and no power breaks. well i bought a booster and want to start puttng it on what all do i need to do to do so? do i have to change to disk in the front? please help me out so i can get her on the road for spring.. thanks

also let me know if i need to buy anything else and pics are always a pluse

No, you don't have to change to disks. I don't know what year your booster unit is off of or what setup it had, but you have to make sure you have the correct proportioning valve for the drum brakes.

I was able to junkyard my booster set up (booster, mounting bracket, pushrod).

The junk booster was used for a core, and purchased another '70 booster from the local auto parts store. If I remember correctly, my set up came from a '69. Anyways, my master cylinder fit the booster (as it should since both the power and non-power brakes use the same master cylinder). I did need to adjust the linkage from the brake pedal to the booster, and needed to bend my brake lines a little bit because of the longer length from the firewall to cylinder. I'm still running drums at all four corners.

you will need booster/master cylinder, bracket and linkage for booster, rebend your brake lines and proper proporting valve. I just completed mine last week on my 68. It was easy

i have drums all the way around and added a booster. My brake lines were so rusted that the added pressure blew holes right through the rusted area of the lines. i was so happy that i discovered this in the garage rather than when trying to stop. i then replaced all lines and booster works great...what a difference!...i bought a booster off the board.

Here are a few pics of mine (sorry I'm a day late). It was pretty much a direct bolt-in install. I just removed the master cylinder from the firewall, installed the bracket and booster, then mounted the master cylinder to the booster. Never broke open a line.

Do they work now? If not, just go to my albums (click on my name). I accidentally had the album set to private. I logged out and could still see them...
