two switches on brake pedal

I have two switches that are activated by my brake pedal. They are both sticking and make a "pop" or "click" sound when finally activated. These are both plunger style switches.

Through my research I found one to be the brake switch and the other to be unknown. So my question is, what is this switch? I'd like to replace it as the sound is so annoying! Thanks in advance!

Truck is 1984 C10 Silverado, Auto, 305, CA emissions

Rob

Do you have cruise control? I just picked up a '78 with cruise and it has 2 switches as well. I believed it was the cruise cut off.

Re: two switches on brake pedal

Yes I have cruise control. From my searches the brake switch is combined with the cruise control. There's two functions on that one switch.

It's the other switch with the red pin that looks to also have a vacuum line out the back that I have no idea what it is.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info Hunter.

So how do I replace the switch? The replacement brake switch is for both brake and cruise control. Am I missing something?

From the LMC catalog - 36-0644 STOP LAMP SWITCH W/CRUISE

Is there two switches for the cruise control? Thank for your help!

Re: two switches on brake pedal

I would chase the vacuum line that is currently on there back through the firewall (I assume it does)that will confirm it is or isn't for the CC. I will check a couple of my manuals to see if I have anymore info on CC circuit.
If you can try to check both switches for a pt. #

Thanks Hunter, I really appreciate it, this is driving me crazy, I just tried searching for CC switches and got nothing. Only switch I can find is the brake switch with CC.

Aftermarket Cruise control?
Unlock switch for lockup Torque converter may be on Brake light switch.

It's factory cruise control, thanks for the info, I'll also look up the torque converter switch or activator as well.

Re: two switches on brake pedal

Some(all?) factory CC had the vacuum release button on the brake as a backup to the electric switch. Tapping the brake should release the CC electrically but if something went wrong and you mash on the brake, you will release the vacuum operating the CC throttle control.

At least the CC I pulled from the local pull-a-part had the vacuum switch in addition to the dual plugged brake switch.

Re: two switches on brake pedal

Tracing the vacuum hose goes right to the back of the engine as shown in this pic, it's the in the middle and the hose is coming from 3 o'clock right to left under that white thingy (bottom of the three hoses).

Now that I'm almost confirmed I know it's for the cruise control, where do I find this replacement switch?

DP, that's the best explanation yet. Totally makes sense. Now if I can only find this switch! Although I never use the CC, ever, so I may just delete the switch to get rid of the annoying clicking sound (cause it's not working right)

Thanks everyone who helped me out today!

Thanks Dan, I didn't even consider looking at Rock Auto

Hunter, I pulled 01645516 Made in Mexico 6315 off the back of the mystery switch.
