Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

I hope to get those floor braces welded in this coming weekend so I can roll the cab back forward and then I can start putting the truck back together again. I don't like to leave it too tore apart too long. Once I get it put back together and drive-able, I'll move on to the cab patch panels I already purchased.

I cut the bracket off the Eaton and welded it to the 14-bolt. I'll get some pics up for you by this weekend.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

Got my cab mounted up today.
I used Anthony's (4-5-6 Chevy Trucks) Cab Mount Brackets.

I also bought new rubber Cab Mounts from Classic Parts of America.
I was concerned when they arrived that they were CounterParts brand, but they worked very well.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

Cab is bolted down.
I got the motor bolted back up today.
Next I'll move on to mounting the new box I bought this past summer.

If some of you are wondering why I'm putting it back together; it's because I know myself - If I leave it tore down too long, I risk something coming up and it being left in pieces. I want it drivable again by this coming summer.
Once I get it all back together, I'll start doing the patch panels I also bought this past summer.

I completely understand why you're putting her back together. I start loosing parts if I leave stuff apart too long.
Any word on you old truck?
I was hoping you would find it for Christmas..
Happy Holidays

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

I have a strip at the front of the box where it met the bed that had rust that I intend to patch. Hopefully I'll get the box mounted this coming weekend.

Thanks for asking.
I got the letter typed up like Mark suggested.
I just need to print off the picture to accompany.
Honestly, Now that I see they've done a nice restore and appear to love her, (and I'm really into my 66), I'm not really concerned about getting her back.
I will make it a goal to mail the letter off by this weekend.
If they let me come see it; great. If not; no big deal.

Guessing you found your old 65?
Hope they let you "visit" with it. If they like the truck so much, they would probably enjoy learning as much of it's history as you know of it. Us Ponitac guys are lucky in having the Pontiac Historical Services (PHS) which will research all of the origin info on our cars.

I like knowing as much as I can, adds character to the rig in my mind....

Just read your build thread here too, good work! Congrats on getting your engine fired up again.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

I'm glad to hear you are coming to terms with losing your 65 because the 66 is an awsome build and you should be proud of your progress so far. I really enjoy seeing the progress you are making and you will surely have a very sweet ride when you're done.

Thanks.

Yeah, at this point I have my heart in this 66.

It would still be nice to see my ol 65, but I really haven't the desire to have it back like I did when I first went on my search for it a year or so ago.

Here's the fitting needed to connect the 79 chevy truck's rear port of the combination (proportioning) valve to the 60-66 brake lines:

I'm pretty settled on the orange and white now.
I want to keep the County Truck theme but dress it up some.
I even plan on getting a couple circle decals to put on the doors to replicate the originals.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

Brake lines are ran and all connected.
I was able to do it all with the 79 donor and that one fitting I mention above.
Next is extending the rod to the brake pedal.

I will surely hook up the warning light.
I still need to do some searching in the forums for where and how.
I'm thinking we may need to add our own dash light, beings our trucks didn't have a combination valve.

That switch on the proportioning valve works as the ground for the warning light.

Got the box on my 66 today.

Just need to level it up and bolt it down.

Took the wheels off, and it rolled right on.
