Question Fuel Gauge

Will a Sunpro fuel gauge work with a stock GM sending unit?

Re: Fuel Gauge

The sunpro is designed to work with their sending unit which opperates from Full: 33 ohms to Empty: 240 ohms.

I do not know anything about sunpro gauges, but that seems backwards to me. Shouldn't the higher resistance value be Full and the lower empty?

Re: Fuel Gauge

That was cut and pasted from Sunpro's sending units spec's (Resistance specifications: Empty: 240 ohms 1/2: 130 ohms Full: 33 ohms) They do it so you have to use their sending unit. I remember another post on here where the op had an aftermarket sending unit 0-90 ohms but it was backwards (90 empty and 0 full) and could not be used.

Re: Fuel Gauge

When the float is up above the fuel level at full, the rheostat has minimal resistance. When the tank is low and the float is on the bottom, there is maximum resistance.

Re: Fuel Gauge

Right, bottom line is that a Sunpro gauge will not work with stock GM sending unit
