Re: 73 gmc short Sierra Grande C1500

I finished up with the sound dedner, put the headliner in, sill plates, and put the seats and carpet in. Also installed kick panel speakers for the retro radio. Not sure if I'm going to order a cardboard back panel, or make one, and I have to repaint the glove box door, it got scratched. The interior looks real nice!

I also cleaned up the cluster a few days ago, painted the inside chrome, repainted the outside, repainted the needles, and put some led lights in there.. it lights up nice now.😀

All looks fantastic brother! Love your work. Question about the buckets vs seating position. On a bench seat, to me it feels like I naturally sit more off the edge so that I'm centered on the steering wheel. Do the buckets sit center to the steering wheel? If so, what bracket is used to achieve that? Thanks man!

Re: 73 gmc short Sierra Grande C1500

Got the tailgate and glove box door painted this morning. I have to open the service doors in my shop to use the exhaust fan, or it will start to suck in the overhead door, with it being -15 with a -30 wind chill outside, it made for a very interesting little paint session! In case you would like to build a custom tailgate paint rack like mine, all you need is a long piece of electrical conduit, a ladder, and a hydraulic press!

Re: 73 gmc short Sierra Grande C1500

Color matched bed liner sprayed in, it's tintable raptor liner. I think it turned out nice, it's still wet in the pictures, it seems to be lightening up, and flattening out a little as it cures. Well worth the money in my opinion, makes the dinged up box floor look presentable!

I believe all I have left now is install the tailgate, rear bumper, the panel behind the seat, and seat belts! A couple hours work at most.

Got my panel for behind the seats built! Nothing fancy, but it covers up the back, and it fits good!

Re: 73 gmc short Sierra Grande C1500

I couldn't find any aftermarket seat belts that I liked, so I took the factory belts apart and dyed them, then gave the plastic parts a few coats of sem landau black. They turned out great. Some gm decals for the push buttons are on they way!

Rear end buttoned up, interior is done, vacuumed down and charged up the ac. The bed bolts got painted up, and I painted a gas cap as well. I have a chrome one on there, but I think it looks kinda cheap.

What did you use to dye the seat belt webbing?

What is the longest screws can you use for the box behind the seat, I want to do something similar?
I noticed you put screws just below the rear window.

I used rit liquid dye, using the stove top method, with some white vinegar added. From experimenting in the past, I have found that the webbing with 3 rows in the fabric will dye fine, and last. The webbing with 4 rows does not take the dye very well.

I used 3/4" screws with finishing washers, and you have to put the screws in between the ribs.

Thanks for the info and the tip on the 3 row webbing vs 4 rows...

Re: 73 gmc short Sierra Grande C1500

Well, I got the few loose end tied up today, and my buddy rented an enclosed trailer and came and picked it up! That was a fun project, and I'm happy with how it turned out. If you ever follow the Mecum auctions, keep your eye out for this truck at the March Kansas City auction. Now on to Dads79gmc project!
