1976 exhaust hanger questions

My 1976 C20 came with single exhaust and I want to put on dual and use factory hangers, are the hangars side specific as in a L or R? I'm going to the bone yard soon and like to know before I crawl under some of the donor trucks. Thanks!

My 84 K1500 came with a 6.2 diesel with factory dual exhaust and the hangers on it are different from side to side.

I am pulling the driver's side off, as I'm running single exhaust (it has a Banks turbo package) on the passenger side.

Look for big block and diesel pickups. They usually have the dual exhaust. They are side specific.

Im not sure on 73-87, but think, and will verify in the morning, that the bolt in brackets just in front of the axle are the same on both sides, and also the riveted on ones at the tank. The tailpipe ones are different.

I have the bed off my truck so can get pictures of everything if it will help, but will definitely compare side DS vs PS brackets.

No hurry, just whenever you get to it. I didn't know there were brackets at the tank, going out to the shop and check to see what I have under there.

Just checked my truck and it has a factory riveted on hanger at the front of the muffler, which is across from the gas tank and a factory riveted on hanger for the tail pipe. I believe the exhaust is original to my truck, the gas tank is on the passenger side and the single exhaust is on the driver's side.

If you go out to the Walker home page, http://www.walkerexhaust.com/ they show what you need for the Dual setup for the 7.4 (454) engine. They only show single for the 5.7 (350) engine.

Thanks for the Walker link, I didn't know they were still around and sold to the public, now I'm just going to replace the tail and intermediate pipe and leave it single exhaust. Thanks again!

Can't take credit for it, another member on these here forums showed it to me when I was looking for a factory setup for my 1988 Suburban. Got all the parts numbers off their site, looked on the web for the best prices and with a Zaw-Zaw, a few wrenches and 30 minutes, I had a new factory style exhaust with all the correct hangers on the Suburban.

In the early eighties I owned a very nice, low miles 1975 corvette convertible with the original exhaust system still in place. The system was dual off the manifolds, into a single cat and split back into a dual system out the back, I hated it! At the time, my buddy owned an independent auto parts store (remember those?) he ordered true dual exhaust for a 1974, 350, non cat corvette, everything was Walker. It took me 3 -4 hours to install, but it fit and looked great! The most difficult part was adjusting the pipes to clear the spare tire well and to get the mufflers the same height ( they were very visible from the rear.) I'm going to the auto parts store today and order what I need. Very happy!!!!! I'll post pictures when progress is made. Thanks, Dave

Just looked at my truck. The driver's and passenger's exhaust brackets are mirror images of each other, but the ones in front of the axle will work and bolt up on either side. The actual rubber hanger would be within an inch of where it would be if bolted on the opposite side.

My truck is a swb model, and has no hangers until after the rear cab crossmember. Then the second one is just in front of the axle and one behind the axle.
