4.8 no power!

Hi all i have a 07 1500 LS 4wd with the 4.8 and its a dog!!! only 58000 on it. I love the truck extended cab by the way but it can't get out of its own way. Are they all dogs or is there maybe something wrong?

Re: 4.8 no power!

My 09 crew cab has the 4.8 and I love it. Plenty of power for me, but you and I might have different expectations. I have no problems pulling a 5000 lbs camper on a regular basis.

A rear gear change will get you more get-up, but you will loose some top end. Are you running over sized tires?

Re: 4.8 no power!

Mine's a real dog too, 3.23 gears and 275/55/20 (almost 31") tires kind of hard to beat the mini-vans through the intersections.

It's kind of a curse though because when I do get up to speed I run 80mph at about 1900 RPMs which makes me kind of prone to getting tickets.

I have a 212/218 cam ready to go in, I'm changing gears to 4.10 and maybe a torque converter. Future plans include an LY6 (6.0) swap with cam and head work.

What gear do you have?

Re: 4.8 no power!

kinda stuggling with the same thing. it loooks like my nbs 07 is running 3;41s but I have a lift and 35s. Trying to decide wether to go with the 4:10s or the 3:73s.

By using a gear calculator it say back to stock drive ratio I would need to goto a 3;73.

hell its a four gear...auto...should be fine at 80 with 4:10s.

Dude, I'd be looking at 4.56's with 35's...4.10's at the very least. Lots of guys run 4.10's on street tires at around 30" and are very happy.

Re: 4.8 no power!

i think its one of those engines thats going to be great or what youd expect from a small v8, i love mine, it was spunky right off the lot. i have a reg cab long bed wt, 6 inch lift, 34's, cold air intake, flowmaster and a triple dog tuner, im running 8 to 9 sec 0-60, one of the best engines ive ever owned, i like it better than the 5.3, no annoying noises(piston slap), but nothing beats the sound of my 92 silvy with the 5.7
