Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

The problem with the rear disc was in the parking brake system. I guess GM found it easier ($$) to change it back to drums. The big issue with Vendors that work for the big automakers is this. Say you get a 5 yr GM contract to make brake calipers for lets say for simplicity $1000 a year. Well after the first year of production Gm expects a 8% decrease in pricing. So for the 2 nd year you are building calipers for $920a year. 3rd year is less then 4th 5th etc etc. I know for a fact that FORD does this to its Vendors. So if you take all that into account the parts are being built cheaper. The vendors start to cut corners such as QC and under qualified personnel. I worked for a vendor that shut there doors because of this. Over 800 people in a small town lost there jobs.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

GM has unfortunately been know to drive some of their vendors in to bankruptcy which is the case of the Z-06 corvette roofs on the 05-06 corvettes with the roof tops delaminating. (coming off). That plant that was building the replacement roof and was under lock and key under bankruptcy with GM wondering how they were going to replace roofs under their bulletin.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

I picked up a 2007 Tahoe last night, and it has rear discs. Who knows what they have going on. It seems like the SUV's and 4wd trucks kept the disc brakes, I think. I will have to start paying closer attention.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

Jon- the 07 SUV's are on the new platform so they should have 4 wheel discs. The new trucks do too, I was just being sarcastic.

Carlos- The 2wd 1500's have coil spring up front again. I think 4wd 1500's and 2wd/4wd 2500's and heavier are all torsion bar.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that it rides like total piece of crap, it's just not what I expected. My 04 Dodge 1500 QC rides much better.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

I meant it more as they were headed back in the right direction. If the new trucks are as good as the new SUV's, they will definitely have a winner. We delivered our first one this week, so they should be readily available soon.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

Yeah I know what you mean. The local GMC dealer has 5-6 lined up on the front row. I think i'll let them get through the first round of TSB's before I consider one.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

my new 06 GMC sierra cc 4wd has rear drum brakes........ on my 04 I had to have the front and rear rotors turned at under 30,000 miles I think it was somewhere around 16k miles... my 06 is going to need the front rotors turned already at 13k miles.....

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

the 4.8l v-8 has torsion bars on the front end and the 5.3l v-8 has coilsprings. Several of the guys with the factory 20's and coilspring front ends are complaining of the tires rubbing on the sway bars. Ken, I was just checking to see what front end and engine combo you had to see if your wheels and tires are rubbing, then again yours are aftermarket so you may not have a problem.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

My front 22's do rub the sway bar only. You have to be turned fully before it is a problem at all. Really it never comes into play.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

Carlos- I didn't know that some of the 2wd were torsion bar. Ok, that makes sense.
The only time mine rub is when I turn going out of my driveway and it bottoms out. Beyond that I don't have a problem...

I hate to say it, but GM is having some problems that they don't care to fix. I keep hearing more stories every day about how poor the brakes are holding up.

My 04 Dodge didn't warp the rotors until 65k. We were able to turn them with a slight clean up pass and they are still good at 80k.

That's still not good, but from what I can see, this truck will need to have to rotors replaced way before 60k.

Bill if your happy with your Dodge and you can deal with the new front end styling you really need to consider one again.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

Thanks.....I wasn't going big or decked out, just a basic bottom of the line SWB truck, if I go. I think I am on my last extended/crew cab truck or one decked out nice. I make them work and do too many ugly things. I guess I'll just run the Dodge till the duct tape won't work no more and hopefully GM will be better equipped then.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

I guess it depends on what your looking for. If I were in the used truck market and could get clean one at a right price, I could over look some of the things I am complaining about. I wouldn't mind fixing a few things to my liking if I got a decent deal.

On the other hand when I go buy a new (well almost) truck that their top of the line I expect it to act like what I payed for. I don't expect to have to take it to the dealer for a brake job at 4k miles, and be told by their front end pro that I should plan on being back soon.

I'm also not trying to say my Dodge was without flaws. I had a front wheel bearing go out at 65k. I think that was BS to, but beyond that it has been a good truck and I never had to take it in for warranty work.

I think your best bet is to find a good deal on the truck that fits your needs. I really had hoped that GM had improved this series of trucks since it has been in production for 8 years. It's unfortunate that in 8 years time they haven't solved some minor problems. That pretty much tells me what I already knew.

GM doesn't give a sh!t about the quality of their product any more. They are more concerned with cool ad campaigns to lure you back in, rather than keeping you satisfied with a quality product.

Re: My 06 CC gets wheels

I agree. I sorta wanted to have a GM again and was just thinking, of course I always am. No my Dodge has been very good in the year I have had it. Only thing I have some concerns with is the front end. I aligned my 96 once in 4 years and about 80,000 miles and it was still right on. I put new tires and all on the Dodge when I got it, and in 20,000 its went way out of line again. Maybe a freak thing, but had me wondering. All parts are good, so we'll see. I may still go look at that new GMC I was thinking of, but I am getting the feeling the only Chevy/GM truck I will have any time soon is the one in my shop awaiting paint and assembly. Thanks for the straight shoot.

Yeah, but the structure is made of HSS (high strength steel) that is made to protect the cabin and passengers. It's not just Cavaliers, but most new cars made today. I don't know what you cut it up with, but I bet it gave a little bit of a fight.
