Re: 84 C10 Project

I just need to raise it enough to clear the 1-1/2" tube I have sitting on top of the frame. But, I think to make it look clean and not so much like an after thought, I will put a rise about 3" in between the fenderwells.

I think this is the easiest solution, rather than completely re-doing my x-member and tank brackets that come off of it. Seems a liitle odd to have this when I dont have a step notch, but, kind of have no choice now. I wanted it all under the bed.

Kind of like this.

Re: 84 C10 Project

I want to paint the exhaust on my truck, and not really sure what color to do it. Want to see what you guys think. All my suspension and frame is black, so i am looking for a little contrast, but at the same time, all flat black exhaust would be kind of sinister.

A) Flat Black Exhaust
B) Silver
C) Charcoal, if I can find it in a high-heat paint.

Re: 84 C10 Project

Yeah, silver might break it up some. I just think the black would look clean and simple.... kind of tough looking.

Re: 84 C10 Project

It has been a little bit since I worked on my truck. But I did pick up my Nitto NT05 tires yesterday. 315/35/20 for the rear, and 255/35/20 for the front. Now i just need to measure for backspace and order my wheels.

Re: 84 C10 Project

It has been a while since I have worked on my truck, but plan on making some progress soon and finishing the front end.

Here are the Choppin' Block arms that arrived. They are a very nice part and well built. Quality arms.

Re: 84 C10 Project

Here are some more pictures of the truck. This is shown with no springs in the front at all and using a stock spindle. It is sitting on the rubber bump that wont be there with the new arms. I think once everything goes in, it will drop the crossmember on the ground. Just though I would share a few photos. The back is aired out right now also.

Re: 84 C10 Project

Got some work done this weekend. The passenger side front is mostly done. Still have to mount valves, trim fender to clear tire, and finish steering. Got the McGhaughy's 2.5" drop spindle, The Choppin' Block arms & Slam Specialties bags. Still have brakes left, which I will be going with the Wilwood D-52's.

Aired out.

Aired up.

Re: 84 C10 Project

Are you going to have to cut the tubs in the bed to fit that tire in ?

No, they will fit in the stock tubs, but is a tight fit. Just have to get the back space just right.

Re: 84 C10 Project

Thanks. I am really close to having the wheels finished and mounted on the truck. I really can't wait to get it back on the ground and at least driving.

Where are most of you mounting your battery?

Re: 84 C10 Project

Looking good! Great progress!

What process did you use to get that gas tank so clean? Did you use a wire wheel, sand paper, etc?

Re: 84 C10 Project

I just used a wire wheel on a 4-1/2" grinder. That's how I did all of my frame and anything else I removed paint from. Works well, just sometimes hard to get in tight areas.

I was also surprised about how clean the tank came out after wire wheeling it... and it was extremely easy to get it that clean before painting. I am assuming that is because it is aluminum.

Re: 84 C10 Project

Got the last corner done, and now the whole truck is bagged! The underneath is almost there, next is the core support. But first, I want to wire up the valves and compressors.

I thought I was going to have to change out my headers, but they actually clear. The arms hit the ground first, and actually start to lift the wheels. Overall, I am satisfied with the amount it drops. Wish it went down a little further, but I expected this having a stock crossmember and no step notch.

Wheel should be finished soon also!
