Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Well I've got a 71 lwb with a 307 3 spd, that i am resurecting.
I started mine 3 times today, installed valve cover gaskets and turned on head lights at dark and it's now snowing here today.

Got the big block exhaust pipes fitted up, and started the Vintage Air condenser install.

You could try carnauba wax, it's more for fiberglass but it goes over the patina without a lot of shine and seals it up.

started putting dash back together...new Glove box, new dash pad, radio antennae, defrost ducts, rubber bumpers, painted dash, and removed/painted and reinstalled the e-brake pedal.
Looking good...

Pretty sure these have a coat of the cheap liquid Turtle Wax you can get at Walmart.

The bare metal will tell the tale I guess.
Here’s a shot of the other side of the bed and cowl. I’ll try to get a decent picture of the whole truck in a few days when it stops raining, still haven’t got to drive her for over 4 months now because of the weather

Just did a coat of boiled linseed oil on our '68

Sure makes the old dried out paint come to life.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Installed an offset air cleaner in anticipation of running power brakes with a booster.

Repaired my Tonneau cover (One corner was broken so I replaced all four.)

Removed the carpet to inspect floor pan for issues before installing sound deadener and new carpet. I was expecting a nightmare, and was pleasantly surprised that she only needs a very tiny bit of paint.

I have that job coming up at some point...did yours have the brace that runs from the engine to the bottom of the filter housing? Could you show me a pic of where that bolts to?

************

I was going to mow my yard today but noticed that the tarp I had over my stored spare tire cutout fender was in bad shape. It was a job and took some time, but I unscrewed, pried, and cut that crate apart! The fender looks good and I was able to get it into the garage. I cut the crate the rest of the way apart so I could load it up and haul it to a dumpster I pay for. Only one splinter and I got it out with tweezers.

Thanks for the tips guys, those trucks look great. I may have to give one of those a try. Does liquid wax hold up as well as regular wax does?

And that truck rubbed with the oil looks really good, but there’s just something that makes me not want to cover my truck in oil, for one thing I have to travel a dusty road occasionally.

It drys up in a day or two.
Lasted a year or so since I last did a coat.
Wiped it on with a sponge waited a few minutes wiped off with micro fiber towel. Took my daughter and I 45 minutes maybe.

That is tempting, but there’s still just something keeping me from wanting to do it. I think if for some reason I ever would have to paint something on it. Plus my dad would kill me for parking something covered in oil in his garage, he paints in there haha. Thanks for the help though.

Is it really better? The bench seat in my 68 is the most comfortable seat I’ve ever sat on. Everyone who sits on it says the same thing. I guess the arm rest would be kinda nice.

Yes it is better. Maby not as good as yours but mine did have fome on the bottom. I used some memoery foam to get by. It was not a full foam seat. And it lag room is pritty good. Maby a inch or two back would be nice.any one over 6 foot whould not like it. I drove it 40 miles the other day and it was pritty comfitable

Oh okay I see what you’re saying now, it was worn out. Mine is an original seat but it’s not original to my truck. The seat looks good though, I like it. Too bad it doesn’t have cup holders. I desperately need some but I hate to pay the price for a console. But I’m sick of trying to work the clutch and gas with a drink between my legs haha

Ya cup holder would be nice. If its a can it can set on the dash if you dont care if it spills. a bottle can set on the seat next to you. my old seat was junk. Thats why its in a dumpster.

The old seat would still bring $50-$100 I wouldn't throw it away. The seat in my truck is mot the original, its out of something newer. Not sure what so I guess its off to the upholstery shop before long, but I still have to fix brackets so they bolt to the seat.
