1988 sbc 350 starter

Anyone know what the gizmo on the bottom of the engine is that has a starter wire/terminal end connected to it? Never in my life seen this?

It's your knock sensor. You want to keep it.

Re: 1988 sbc 350 starter

So its just getting power from the starter? Nothing really to do with the starter?

Re: 1988 sbc 350 starter

It's just a separate wire/ circuit that's routed through the same protective conduit.

That opening in the engine block just back from the knock sensor .....isnt it supposed to be holding the dipstick tube ?

Looks like its been leaking for a while...might want to check it out before you put engine back in....

Usually an O-ring takes care of that.

Re: 1988 sbc 350 starter

Small blocks dont use o rings on dipstick tubes....use a little silicon on tube when reinstalling it...

Small blocks dipstick tube presses into the block...

Big block engines all use o rings...GM part number GM 274244....

Big block dipsticks fit into the sump...
