Least expensive way I ever shipped wheels was by Greyhound Bus Lines. Much less than UPS. I never tried Fastenal, however based on how much they wanted to ship fender bolts, I would try Greyhound. Just box them up first, you will have to drop off and pick up at the bus station, but were very reasonable when I used them.

Re: Cheapest way to ship wheel

The cheapest way is buy or sell from or to your neighbor. Dang shipping has gotten ridiculous. I was pricing shipping wheels recently. Fastenal and FedEx were about the same. Greyhound is cheapest but you lose convenience and hopefully depot is near enough both parties. Doubling up saves money. Twice the size and weight ships cheaper as one package than two.

Greyhound lost my mickey Thompson challenger wheels last month. No sign of them. I will never ship with them again. No accountability

Re: Cheapest way to ship wheel

Cheapest isn't always the best. Never used Fastenal or Grayhound, BUT, as I have looked into it neither offers ANY insurance or tracking. Hard to explain to someone who sends $$ for a set of wheels "wheels got lost in shipment, don't know what happened to them." As special-k said and I found it to be true, shipping two wheels in one box is cheaper than two wheels in two boxes. I just recently shipped a set of four 15x8 4 nub steel wheels using UPS. Just over $80 to ship the four of them, insured for $400 for the set. Tracking #s and quick delivery. Performance over cost is sometimes worth the extra $$. Just my $.02.

Iron horse. I agree. I just got quoted $47.83 to ship a 50 dollar 15-7 steelie wheel. I will see what it would be for the pair !! That was UPS from Texas to California I think. That area anyway. I had a hard time posting the word Cheapest!! I know it isn't always best !! Thanks Steve

Re: Cheapest way to ship wheel

Greyhound is cheaper, but they also lost a rollbar from a 72 blazer! Yes, a 1 piece rollbar! Got some money back out of them, but wasn't easy.
If the wheels need paint, I just have UPS put a suitcase tag through the valve stem hole and ship them loose.

Ironhorse, not sure how you shipped that cheap, unless they didn't go very far. Anywhere in California is always the highest price to ship for me. Last wheels I checked were about $42 each.

Shipping is killing more deals all the time, but is beyond our control...

Re: Cheapest way to ship wheel

My quotes from a recent listing I had in the parts section for stock 15s were all $40+. I priced with them paired and I think it was around $60

When I shipped those wheels total distance was about 500 miles, agree was not a far distance for heavy wheel shipping. Also agree, the shipping costs do kill many deals for buyer and seller both. I always try for best and lowest feasible cost when selling but sometimes the old "you wanna play, you gotta' Pay" comes into the picture. Sucks but what r you gonna' do !!
