May never see this again

So we woke up this morning to SNOW in central Ms. Ice usually, but snow...very rare. Anyway, wifey snapped this picture today after I left for work. I thought it looked cool. And like I said in the title, this may never happen again.

Re: May never see this again

We used to live in Gulfport, MS when I was stationed down there. Had snow on Christmas morning 2004. It may not happen often but it does happen now and then.

Oh, and I woke up to snow this morning, though it happens every year here. Probably our 6th snow or more this year so far. We've got a LOT more coming though!

Re: May never see this again

Our report changed from last night saying maybe snow mixed with rain south and closer to the coast. Now most of the state will get snow but we are still on the low side of it at 2-3". I just checked online and it is snowing now in the area they first said would only get it. That surprised me. No precip here at all.

Re: May never see this again

Perspective is a funny thing. When I go out in the morning and my truck looks like that, I don't think it looks cool. Haha, maybe if I lived in Mississippi. I have been pretty lucky though because I'm in Alberta and it hasn't snowed for over a month, but when it did my boys & I built this sweet ramp:

Re: May never see this again

Here's my backyard, I'm a mile from the water but we had snow since 2:50 pm 12/8, just one of those storm types I guess. I enjoy snow, and was very used to it back on long island NY. Hopefully this will be the pattern for the winter season.

Re: May never see this again

I have noticed in more recent years in the Mid-Atlantic that the coast will get these storms us in the Piedmont and mountains don't even get, or way less than the coast. Growing up the coast rarely got any amount of snow. One storm dumped 13" there and we got an inch or two. It is just now starting to snow. Nothing up till now and Annapolis has been getting snow since dinner time last evening.

I like snow. I have worked outside all my life, which makes life harder than for those who only deal with it and the cold to and from work. Yet I don't let it bother me. If it starts to, I just look back at what people used to have to deal with and figure I can too.

Re: May never see this again

We are bone dry and cold here in Colorado. We woke up to a dusting of snow the other day followed by a high fire warning. The ski areas have only 18-21" of base so not a lot of runs are open. Aspen ski area is supplementing the seasonal workers by feeding them free meals 3 nights a week. This is definitely weird weather we are all experiencing.

Every state in it's path has had, is, or will have Snow from Mexico to Canada.

Here in SW Virginia it is still snowing with about a 2 Inch accumulation so far. Nothing sticking to the roads though.

Could somebody ship a couple cubic miles of that whiteness out here to California? We sure could use it. The place is on fire all over.

Re: May never see this again

We had a nice snow here, about 4". It snowed from dawn till dusk. Not wet, but ground was above freezing, so it took a while to start accumulating. It didn't start sticking to the stone driveway till late afternoon. I went into town for some things just before dark and it stopped while I was out. It was nice being out seeing all the Christmas lights in the snow and coming up on my own lights was a treat.

I love how the snow forces this way to busy and inpatient world to slow down. Also helps us appreciate what we have being stuck at home. If power goes out, we sure do learn to appreciate having that thing we take for granted. A little deprivation followed by a reward does the soul good. One thing I like the most is hardly any cars driving by. This one didn't build up on the roads where there is no one out at all. I love those snows that keep people in. This old place feels like it did 100 years ago. The bad part is my '72 is confined to the driveway now until after a couple good rains after the last salt/chemicals are spread... probably March! Bummer. Damn trucks cost too much to go out and get a beater for winter like I used to.
