Another quadrajet question

I have a rochester quadrajet and it seems like when I press on the throttle it lakes more force than I would like. It is not the strength of the external return spring. This is happening with the return spring disconnected. It seems like the carburetor has some type of built in return spring or maybe is sticking some how. If it does have some type of internal return spring is there a way of loosening it or if it sounds like it is sticking some how is there a lubricant or cleaner I should use? I noticed that there is a brass colored spring on the side of the carburetor. Does that have anything to do with it?

That spring is not the problem. It’s needed to close the secondary plates.
What do you have for a gasket between the carb and intake?
The wrong one will let the primary plates hang up on it.
Try loosening the carb studs slightly and move the carb a little to see if it gets better.

Should the throttle have any kind of resistance or spring back when it is not connected to anything?

Yup!
That secondary spring does that.

Another thing to try is move your accelerator cable mount stud up higher into the next hole.

When I do that I don't get full throttle because that hole goes below the point where the throttle cable is pulling from if that makes any sense.

I see that.
If you need more travel you could make a simple extension kinda like this. Lop off the trans kick down stud. Or make a custom one from flat steel.

I have tried to do something like this before and what ends up happening is that when I start to push down on the throttle it creates a hump that you have to get over because you are then pulling from the wrong side of the rotation.

Have you disconnected the cable from the carb & worked the pedal, slide the cable end back, ect? Sometimes the cable gets frayed & starts to catch inside the plastic jacket. Lorne

Mine did that and replaced the throttle cable. Works better. Just like what was mentioned. Give it try ,not expensive

Yes. I tried that. I even tried lubricating the pedal. It definitely has something to do with the carburetor not with how it’s connected to the carburetor.

The cable/ and (cable mount needs) to be above the Throttle shaft.

I know you are trying to help and I appreciate it. Is the thought behind moving it to the higher hole that it will give me more leverage?

That bracket looks just like the Lokar bracket that I have except that mine has an extra bracket for the TV cable. I wonder if it is the TV cable that is giving me the resistance that I am experiencing

I will try and take a better photo of my setup tomorrow.

So I ended up moving the linkage to the top hole today and it improved it greatly. I might need to tighten up the return spring a little just to get it a little tighter. My only concern now is I might not be getting full throttle. I will have to do a test to make sure. I have included a better photo of the bracket that attaches to the bolt on the carb. I also tried loosening the carb bolts to see if it was contacting a gasket and it didn’t help. So I think the gasket is not causing any problem. Thank you all for the help
