72 Custom Deluxe

So, this is more of a mini project as opposed to a full blown one Last Sunday, I helped a friend bring her '72 Custom Deluxe home so we could get it running. She's trying to decide if she wants to sell it and I'm trying to talk her into keeping it.

Loaded up...dragging her home.





Some pics of it in the driveway after we got it home. The body is really in pretty good shape, it would need new cab corners, and a passenger side rocker (damage not rust). I'm really surprised with how little rust there is in the "normal" problem areas.

Today, I replaced the battery and it cranked over finally! It still wouldn't run as I think the floats are stuck down in the carb, so I'm going to rip that apart and rebuild it.

Yeah, I think it would be a great runner. I'm trying to convince my wife into letting me rent it from my friend

Today I purchased a carb kit and a new filter. I tore the carb apart, and now I know the process it takes to make petroleum jelly! New gas + years of sitting = petroleum jelly.





I'm going to purchase some carb chem dip tomorrow to let these babies soak to get some of this jelly out.

Last night I got most of the carb put back together. I think it's coming along real nice. It cleaned right up. Today I will be getting the rest of it together, then figure out how to remove/dispose of the bad gas in the tank(s).

easiest way i've seen to get the bad gas out is just pull the fuel line off the tank and drain it into jerry cans, then use the bad gas for either cleaning solvent or fire starter (that's what I use it for in the country, then i use a mytvac pump system to pull the fuel from the lines, personally if you're not planning to replace all the fuel lines, i'd run a sea foam treatment with 5 gallons of premium through the system before i set it up. then replace plugs and filters and oil.

That's a nice lookin custom...looks like a good investment.

Today the weather is pretty nasty, so I won't have a chance to get the fuel out of there.

I did finish getting the carb together today. Nice and clean and ready to drop on.

Carburetor is all cleaned up and on! I did drain a little of the gas and add some fresh, but I will be draining it so I can get some good gas in it to see if we can get'r running good.

Clean and shiny!!! No leaks either! I'm pretty happy with myself lol

I thought that was pretty neat myself, but as much as some of these old trucks can leak you might as well make it convenient...

Yeah!!! Running on it's own power! It actually ran pretty well. I changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
