Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

Besides an alignment and rear shocks, this pretty much completes the suspension portion of this build...

Mods- if you wanna move this to the Projects & Builds section, I'll continue posting there.

For everyone else who is following along, I'll be posting here for the GenIII engine install...

Ask and ye shall receive... Unfortunately, I also have bad news. I will be using the drop spindles for this project, so I will be keeping the other set. Sorry.

Ride height and dumped. Also a pic of the inner fender carnage and the solution to the problems it produced...

Gringo,

What is your ride height gonna be? I'm planning on 6". Is your's close to that?

Also, your dumped height - how far off the ground is it? With my tire hieght I should be a 2". Again, how close is yours?

Thanks

Toughen up! I worked last night 'til the air tools froze up on me.

I had to go outside and measure. I will say this- it's so low it's hard to get a tape measure under there Dumped I am at just a hair over 2"- call it 2.25". Ride height is like 5.5 front and 6.5 rear. I set it up to have just a little rake.

When I put the drop spindles on, I should be able to lay the front bumper on the ground easily, but I will probably set up some bumpstops to stop it close to where it is now. That will make it so i can roll(but not steer) in case of air system failure and save me from having to tub the hood...

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

Played a little today with the hood hinges. It's actually coming together very easily. I won't go into a whole lot of detail on it because it has been covered by Rokcrln in his FAQ. I will be following his example pretty closely with the exception of a few small things.

I also included a daytime shot of it outside with the hood on. The tape is to keep me from damaging the paint while I remove/install the hood during hinge fab. It's cool that I can roll it in and out of the shop without airing it up...

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

Make sure you check the radiator cap clearance as it gets real tight. I had my cap on with the PSI release lever facing up tward the radiator center, closed the hood and bought a new cap Now I keep the lever facing down!

Exactly what you have in mind. I'll just be slickening up what you've already done to make it more presentable. You know, try to make the square tube and angle iron not look so much like square tube and angle iron.

The only real deviations I see from your design so far is that I will not weld the actual hinge assemblies to the core support. They will be entirely bolt-on so that I can replace them if necessary and so they can be removed for things like- oh, I dunno- stabbing the 6.0!

Lo-buk looks good btw; I may be stealing your other hood mod before too long...

Yep sliking up would be good. I may leave mine how it is and do a fiber glass under hood cover to hide everything or may re-do my set up as well. Just a word of caution leave the hinge springs off untill everything is bolted up. They have a nasty habbit of springing right as your finger is in the way, so I have heard

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

Gringo, did you have your DM powder-coated as is or did you debur the edges a little?

I did on mine 'cause I was worried about the powder 'lifting' off the sharp edges like it did on my ECE hidden-hitch.
