Re: S10 Swap how to

When mocking up the cab and front sheet metal how much further can the cab be moved forward?

I have my cab at 2.1/8" as instructed but the wheels are too far forward in the front fenders. I would like to move the whole cab/front clip fwd about 1.5-2" to center the wheels. Are there any drawbacks to moving it fwd that much?

Familybowtie;

Do you have your motor set in place:
Then move cab forward till you have1.5 inch of clearness on the dist.
If useing a dist engine.

Re: S10 Swap how to

FamilyBowTie, Do you have any pics of the front wheels in the fenders? I think I am having the same issue but mine may not be as bad as 2" I can't tell. The reason I think this is because of how crowded the front of the tire is to the fender. hmm maybe its just because it's lower than before. Thoughts?

Re: S10 Swap how to

Hey Steve,
This morning I measured with a piece of tape across the fender and a plumb bob and it was 1-3/8 to 1.5" fwd of center. I just came in from taking off the cab, grinding the tacks and moving the mounts fwd 1.25".

On 15" tires it looks like yours, not too bad but with 20" it really showed so I ended up just moving the mounts fwd. If I have any issues it should only be the rear end but I plan on a 4 link so I can adjust that pretty easy - I hope.

Familtbowtie;
Have you cked the turn clearness also?
You look very low on your wheels.
I have like a 3.5" clearness from wheel to fender at top of fender.
I'm running 14" wheels.
CK out the "Frankenstine" build.
I also had my cab set 2" above the frame, but had to add 1.5" spacer to front cab mount to ge the fenders n hood to line up.
I was also like 4" back on my cab from the eng dist.

Skymags, just a reminder to confirm that the front of the front fenders is higher than the rear of the front fenders.
Thanks

Not my pics, those are SteveAleves. Mine looks like it is sitting too high but I haven't put the drop spindles on yet. I will try and get some pics this weekend once I get the front sheet metal in place.

Re: S10 Swap how to

Hey guys, sorry, I was out of the net till yesterday. Steve, how tall are your front tires? On Cecil I had time run New wheel spacers on the front to get turning clearance. I also radioed the front fenders a bit. The wheels won't be perfectly centered in the opening, but look good (like yours do)

Be careful moving the cab forward, with a small block the motor clearance is awful tight for a puller fan as it is. Bowtie, if you could send a pic that would be helpful, 20's are a ***** to get to fit right, but can be done. Also, put the grill on with a couple of bolts, the fenders spread a little, and make the wheel center look farther back. It is a noticeable difference! I should have brought that up earlier in this thread (sorry).

Gary. Will snap a pic and a measurement today.

Re: S10 Swap how to

Thanks!! I am running P225 70 R15 in the front and P235 70 R15 in the rear. I think the front tire measures about 27.5 inches in diameter and just under 6.5 inches wide. I have 2 inch spacers on them and once I have the hood on I will be able to align the fenders properly to check my turning. Fingers crossed. Do you have any pics of the radiused fenders? I may have to go this route.

Re: S10 Swap how to

Thanks Skymags. I have been pushing the radiator up and down to see what looks good. It appears that using your body mount spec's the front and rear of the front fenders should be about the same height off the ground, but just wanted to confirm if yours are even also. I'll weld mine in place if it is close to matching yours.

Re: S10 Swap how to

I got the front sheet metal on the cab using SkyMags mount measurements but I looks high to me. I don't have the drop spindles on yet I am hoping that will bring it down. Thoughts please.

Hey Skymangs,
This may have been asked already and if it has I apologize for wasting your time with it again, but have you measured or eyeballed a newer Colorado or Canyon chassis for this mod? Excellent write-up, many thanks for your time and trouble.

Re: S10 Swap how to

Yes, front fenders should be about even. Maybey a smidge higher depending on how much rake you have in your suspension.

I haven't looked into the Colorado chassis. Never even considered it. May have to experiment at a future date.

Re: S10 Swap how to

Here is a pic with the bed on, its not mounted yet but it will drop another 1.5" when I do. Seems high but there is no weight other than the motor.

Started my build thread also.

Re: S10 Swap how to

Looks pretty good. Even when you have all the weight on it, the suspension will sink another 1/2" or so after a couple weeks of driving it. That seems to be a pretty reliable figure. 15 or so of these builds so far, and you get to know how much drop to expect.

Front track width looks close stock and has rack & pinion. I couldn't find one cheap enough at the time.
