73-87 trucks- what size lift for 37/38s? 6"? 8"? 10" or 12"?

In your opinion, if someone wanted to run 36-38" tires or thereabouts, what size lift do you think looks best on the 73-87 trucks?

Trimming? Flares? I have 38.5 boggers on my truck with 4' lift. It still rubs, not bad, but putting a 6" in it. Want a little more frame ground clearance, and not a huge fan of stuffed trucks....

I ran 37s on the 82 K25 for a bit this spring/summer on 6" lift.The fenders have been trimmed a bit & no rubbing.16.5x8.75 rims.Went back to 35s though,too much tire for my poor 6.2!

Its been awhile but if my memory serves correcet i had no issues running 36in militarys on my suburban with a 4in lift then went to 38.5s and just put a 3in body lift on and it will only rub if i were to say.... ramp the front of the truck, couldn't tell you back spacing on the 36s the 38s i could though if i went and looked lol

I would think if you want no rubbing and don't trim the fenders, I would say a 10" in the front for sure...but then again a lot matters on tire width.

I think you could go with an 8" and be ok unless its going to see a bunch of flexing would probably want a 9" or 10" depending on if u body lift or not. I got 39.5s with 9" lift and no rubbing. Doesn't get to much flexing usually just mud and back road cruising is all. Good luck on the truck

My truck had a 6 inch suspension lift at first, and with my bushwhacker cut out flares it cleared 38x15.50 Baja claw radials no problem. I added a 3 inch body lift later on and I like the stance much better. If I were you I would go with an 8 inch lift and a narrower 38. No more than 13.50 wide or so. You may clear the 15.50's but I wouldn't risk it.

The wheel offset and back space are going to make or break what size tire you can make fit. Lets say you were on a 15x14 wheel with a 2.5" back space the 36" tires would rub on a 6" lift.

I used to have a 82 chevy with an 11" lift, cut out bushwacker fender flares, and then brand new 39.5" tires rubbed on my 16.5x14 bart chrome wheels. I ended up swapping the 8" front skyjacker springs for some 10" superlift hd springs. Even with the bushwacker cut out fender flares the tires could still rub.

On a personal note, i usually prefer a lower lift size to make the tires fit. A 4" lift for 35" tires, a 6" lift for up to 37" tires and so on. An 8" lift for the 38" tires should work well. Again, depending on your tire width and wheel specifications.
