GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
I’ve got a copy of the GM parts catalog dated May 1978. There is no group 10-15 included. I know I have NOS parts for my 72’s from group 10 (wiper motor comes to mind).
Why no group 10?

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
I will look at mine tomorrow.
I have a retired friend that was a GM parts man all his life. I will ask him. He has a lot of the stuff memorized. When these parts started going obsolete, he would let me know if the warehouses were getting low on a popular part.

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
I have two of the 72TL catalogs, July 1975 and May 1978..
both have that same page for groups 10-15, no listings.. but a quick thumb through the index reveals no parts listed for those groups.. all single digit and only 16 and 17 two digit groups listed in the index.. motor, windshield wiper motor is group 16.064 in my books.. my guess is those groups are reserved for items not used in these catalogs.. page 3 is a lengthy list of other parts pubs, some of which may have used groups 10 - 15 good luck!

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
I'll have to compare my two books. I'd assume the groups correlate between the two. It wouldn't be like Chevy or GM to use two completely different systems of grouping, especially when most parts are the same, part# and all. But why would one book have and the other not? Thanks for spurring my curiosity. And I'm not sure if I really mean that or if it's sarcasm

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
Thanks for replies. I’ll check group 16 for the wiper motor. I wanted to locate some dash item part numbers like knobs but had no luck and figured these too were group 10-15 items.

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
Here’s a TOC from a GM light duty pickup parts catalog dated feb 1975 and it doesn’t even list 10-15.

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
My GMC Master Parts 1500-3500 book has Group 10 as sheetmetal, 11 is frame, 12 is Fuel, then it jumps to 15- springs. Seems to be complete listings.
Looks all different from the Chevy book I have, which is "Chassis and Body" 10-30, same as Pete's. Group 1 is front end, 2 is rear axle, jumps to 4- brakes, 5- clutch, 6- cooling, 7- electrical, 8- engine, jumps to 10, no 13 or 14, 16- steering, 17- transmission, 18- propeller shaft, 19- wheels-hubs, jumps to 22- tools, 23- body, jumps to 26- a/c, then jumps to 86- naked women

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
Here's a reply I received from an eBay seller when I asked if his advertised catalog had a complete group 10:
"Hi Pete.....This is a Truck parts catalog and there is no 10 group for Chevy Trucks. Only cars had groups 10-15 and all information for those groups are in the truck 16 group..."

That's an image I received from an eBay seller - I don't know specifics.

so far, I haven't found anything not listed somewhere in the 72TL catalog for light duty 10-30 chevy trucks through 72.. and suburbans, panels, vans, etc.. even longhorn stuff, only identified by 133 w.b. maybe Keith could shine a little light on this publication structure? good luck!

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
holy mackerel! just realized what the difference between my two catalogs is... the one with blue pages has the prices listed!
in 1975; a complete 67-72 cab p/n 6272121 with hardware, doors, and instrument panel in prime was $1089 seat separator compartment (console) $48 of parts! 71-71 front bumper painted p/n 3990709 $33.25 chrome p/n 3990710 $44.25 this is great!

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
I used to watch the parts guy flip through the books looking for my parts before computers. I remember paying a around $100 for fenders and tailgates, after a 30% discount in the early-'80s, and wishing I was paying the $29 or so listed in the original publication. "Do we have to go with the price in the supplement?"

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
I just ordered one of those complete cabs. What did the body shop do about the VIN tag when they installed one of those?
I found the wiper motors in 16.064 also, but by the 1983 edition, the only thing left for 72 wiper motor is service parts.

I also remember the parts guy telling me in the early-'80s they had a guy come in and order all the body, interior parts, and trim for one of these trucks. I think he spent about $5k, but might have been less. I hope he asked for a discount! I did when I started ordering up parts. I could see the different price columns and said, "How about you give me these prices from now on", as I pointed to the jobber column. They asked if I had a business... "Yep!". And from then on I got a 30% discount. Well, until maybe around 1990 when GM cut back on discounts. It went to 20%. They said they were trying to compete with the aftermarket and I said, "Compete by charging more?". I think it was more like charge more to support the fact that their parts were better.

your catalog covers other model series and year range, catalog published in '69.. the group 10 - 15 probably does not cover parts for 67-72 10 - 30 series thanks Gerhard and the everyone posting, this is very interesting and useful!

Agree very interesting. Too cool that prices are listed on some. Wonder what the cost of replacement bed wood was for a Longhorn...

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
The last time I ordered every part to assemble a console it cost about $90. The fiberglass came smooth, so did K/5 tops and hatches. I think the last hatch I ordered was just over $100. Those were the days!! Computerized inventory came along and the big parts outfits cleaned out the old stocks. Before that it was like playing a game called "Let's see if I can still get this"... Whopee! I'll take two!

Re: GM Parts Catalog - where is group 10?
A friend of mine put a long tail (complete back half) on a wrecked car once. They somehow used the title off the back half when they titled it. Later somebody noticed the VIN on the title didn't match the one on that car. Hell of a mess.
Did I just hijack this thread?
