C20 ride

[/IMG]
What's the best way to lower the rear of my truck? C20, leaf springs. Just to level with the front, and maybe ride a little smoother. Back is 2" higher than the front at the fender well.

Re: C20 ride

Pair of lowering hangers or shackles.

Re: C20 ride

As said, lowering shackles is about the only good way to lower a leaf spring truck 2 inches.

FYI: 2 inch rake was the factory stance. Congratulations. Your truck is was not beat to death hauling heavy loads. And it looks to be in great shape to me.

Re: C20 ride

ECE 2 1/4" wide spring lowering shackles. Did that on my C20 and was very happy with it. There are two holes and I used the one that lowered it less. Sat very level with my car hauler hooked up to it then.

If you use the other hole you may have to trim one of the bed supports. This is an easy and good way to do this.

Re: C20 ride

I too will be dropping my 3/4 ton GMC that way. I have the overloads but don't really need them, if I remove them but keep the overload shocks will it handle the same amount of load as if I had the overload springs with regular shocks?

Sorry to ask a question within a question.

Re: C20 ride

Shocks won't make much difference IME. If you aren't planning on 1000# plus in the bed then you can probably get away without running the overloads. Conside removing the overloads, doing the shackle, and adding some load leveling air bags.

Re: C20 ride

I dropped the rear of my C20 with drop shackles/hangers and removed my overload and 2 leafs. It rode amazingly better. The 3 springs I removed gave me 2 inches of drop. It's an option for you but will lower your towing capacity.

Re: C20 ride

Tiny,

How many springs did your truck have before you removed the 3 springs?

Thanks

Re: C20 ride

8 or 9. I never intended on using it as a truck but with the 5 springs I still have I could still do the usual truck stuff like helping people move etc.

Re: C20 ride

Tiny,

Thanks, was that the original springs? My GMC 2500 has only 5 and the overload spring. I wonder if my springs were changed by the PO.

Thanks
