Is this a 67 door?

Working on the passenger door I purchased last year I just noticed the where the door handle attaches is different. I bolted the handle I have to it and it seems fine other than the bolt is to long and bottoms out in the handle. Would there be anything else different top is the passenger bottom picture drivers door . I had to do some hammer and dolly work around the mount area on the passenger door . Looks like it dropped on the handle and dented the area .

I would hate to get it in paint and find I can’t make it work . The really weird thing is all three passenger doors I have are like this . Haven’t disassembled the door that was on the truck yet

Re: Is this a 67 door?

Thinking I may have to fab up an angled shim to hold it flush .

Re: Is this a 67 door?

67 doors have a bracket behind the handle. 68 72 do not have this support. It changes the angle the head of the screws seat. Also 67 doors have round holes under the door panels right behind the handle and 68 72 have teardrop holes.

Re: Is this a 67 door?

So why would the bolt holes be so different? The drivers door is recessed and the passenger isn’t .

Re: Is this a 67 door?

The 67 door and handle is another one year only thing for 67 trucks.
The bolts go straight into the handle.
The 68-72 are at an angle.
here are 2 threads that reference this.

Re: Is this a 67 door?

I see the 67s have a plate inside and the handle is different my question now is why is the stamping so different on these doors . The other two passenger doors are also smooth no recessed area at the bolt

Well for giggles I took the passenger door apart that was on the truck . Seems it’s a 67 door with the bracket BUT the access holes are tear drop not round . Also unless the door came off a Fawn 67 as it’s original paint it would be original to the truck .

Re: Is this a 67 door?

The door skin is different because of the big difference in the door handles.

There is a thread that explains it very well.
I cannot find it.

Here are 2 that give good info.

Re: Is this a 67 door?

That is a early 1968 door.

I have a original set just like them on the early production Freemont 1968 GMC that I am bringing back to life.

I usually deal with 69 and up trucks. When I was fixing my doors I noticed that bracket and wondered about it. Mine do have the teardrops also.

Door has no bracket inside so it’s a 68 and up door . But the skin is different between the drivers and passenger door . So it’s clear as mud ain’t it

Yeah lol
Looks like you got your answer.
Early 68 .
They must have been using their left overs.
There’s a wedge to use the door handles.
That’s the post I could not find.

Re: Is this a 67 door?

I'm sure that could have happened in 68. I've never seen it but it doesn't affect anything on the mounting the handles. Fresh inner panels off the new press

Re: Is this a 67 door?

So I don’t think I was clear . Both doors have been established to be 68 . But why are the stampings different from right to left door around the handle bolt holes . The primed door doesn’t have the inner bracket and neither do the other doors I bought .

The one with the bracket came off the truck and I haven’t removed the handle as of yet .
