Squeaky Clutch Pedal ?

My clutch pedal squeaks when I depress it or let it out. Researching here on the Forum, it looks like I should replace the clutch pedal shaft bushings. I have purchased the bushings and am ready to disassemble.

How do I remove my heavy duty over center spring, without hurting myself or damaging something ?

I'm referring to the spring in this photo and diagram (part 5).

There are some good threads on here about what to remove but I did not see how to remove this part.

I appreciate your input.

Re: Squeaky Clutch Pedal ?

can you grab the straight part of the spring with vice grips and pull down till it clears the spring support?

I have some time this weekend and am going to try to remove the clutch pedal. That honking spring is an obstacle. I don't know how to get enough leverage to move the spring.

Vice grips don't offer an opportunity to apply leverage. I have tried a screw driver under the spring hook but can't find a good spot to apply leverage from.

Anyone remove this spring before and have some tips for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is a tool for it, looks like a T-handle with a hook attached to it. Every Auto Parts store has them and they are fairly inexpensive.

Re: Squeaky Clutch Pedal ?

I removed the axle the pedal levered on the spring just depressed and same when I reassembled it. I hooked the spring on the pedal and used it to pull the spring then reinserted the axle.
Now with greese and new bushings that thing still squeaked for a long time then it just quit, I noticed the other day I haven't heard it for some time now.
