Need answers on a swap asap.

Im dropping a new engine in my truck right now and and found I needed to replace the clutch, throw out bearing and crap in my 465. Thats gonna run me a little over 100 bucks.
My truck is an 83 and has a np208 transfer case.

Well, my buddy has a th350 thats connected to a np203 from a 1980 that he will sell me.
I would like to have an automatic.
My question is, what do I need to do to put this th350 in my truck with the np208? Is it longer? will it bolt up the same?
I would put a floor shifter in it so Im not worried about trans linkage, just bolting the tranny to the tranfer case.

My other option is to use his NP203. But then I know I would have to cut my floor for the shifter and then have to get new carpet again.
But would the drive shafts be the same?

We are doing this tomorrow so I need to make an educated decision real fast.

Thanks guys.

I'm pretty sure you will run into problems mating the 208 to the th350 because the 465 is a 10 spline and the th350 is a 27 spline. The rear driveline will be different on the 203. There will be a whole gang of other problems as well. For now, I would spend the $$$ on the clutch parts and get back on the road.

Hmmm. I was unaware of that.
Thank you.
So, the shaft from the trans to the transfer cases are different?

The 203 is also a full time 4wd case.

FYI the 465 should be a 32 spline output. I think 82 was the year they changed that.

Now if you have a TH-400, you will not have that issue. Both Trans have a 32 spline output.

If you used the 203 I think you will run into drive shaft issues. I have a 203 bolted to an sm-465 that I'm going to put in my 83 4x4 and I noticed that the way the d-shafts bolt to the 203 is different that how they bolt to the 208.

It would be cheaper and easier to just replace the clutch. If you were going to build a doubler, I would say go with the auto and 203. How much is he willing to sell the trans and case for?

Re: Need answers on a swap asap.

Decided to keep the 465 but I ran into another issue with the engine Im putting in.
Its a one piece rear main and the flywheel is different than the one that came off it.
Im going to get a new flywheel too and see if anything else doesnt work.
