Quick weekend fishing trip

I haven’t even finished licking all of the wounds from the Utah trip when my neighbor sprung this last minute fishing trip idea on me. Broken swap bar bracket or not (parts are on order from ORD)…. Away we go swaying, rattling and clanking all the way!

Airing down the tires at the beginning of the trail. Not a tough trail, just the soft tires are so much more forgiving to the truck and camper.

Sheep on the trail

Home sweet home. Even in July it gets quite chilly at 11,000 ft, where the heater kicked on several times both nights.

Very cool pictures, but where are the pictures of the fish?

HA! We got totally skunked in the fishing department. I caught two fish that were so small I couldn’t believe they would go after a big heavy Cast Master lure. I’ve seen bigger fish in the pet department at Wal-Mart!

Re: Quick weekend fishing trip

Looks cool up there. My better half had plans set for us on sunday. As hot it was down here in P-town I would have rather been at 11,000 ft with my feet in cool mountain lake.

I'll check what saturday's next month I can bail on and lets look into a run into the St. Elmo Area. I've already planned one for big car show at Bandimere with my Dad, but I should have room to take another day so I've got 2 days up there.

Re: Quick weekend fishing trip

You have a real nice set up there. Makes me want to get a short box and build it like yours for when the wife gets mad at me... I can just sleep in the truck.

Its true, weird to see snow this time of year. The heat index tomorrow will be over 100*

Re: Quick weekend fishing trip

Heck, it actually got quite cold at night. The heater kicked on several times both nights. I prefer it hot though, not a big cold climate person. This lake is at 11,300 ft.

Wow! Cool pics, and another cool trip. We don't have stuff like that around here at all. I'm jealous.

Someday I'm gonna make it back out to that part of the country. You've built a great truck there, Hopefully when I'm done with it, my 72 will be as capable!

Re: Quick weekend fishing trip

Great photos and camping setup. Snow did not surprise me, I have been snowed on every month of the year in the Idaho high country. You can see snow in the background of this photo taken 7-4-1980 at Bull Trout Lake in the Sawtooths.

Re: Quick weekend fishing trip

That was a cool truck show. The kind I like! Too bad about the fish. If it's any consolation, way over here on the Atlantic Coast I never got a bite. Last week we took my Jimmy on a maiden voyage to the Delaware Beaches and I did some surf fishing. It was fun driving on the beach but the lines just laid. It's a good thing I had a couple steaks in the cooler to grill up a nice sunset meal.

Larry, with your setup it will be hard to find excuses NOT to go on all/any spontaneous trips!
