Thanks Joe, I was trying to keep the tall skinny look, and I think it looks great. If I could have, I would have gotten tires an inch or so narrower in this height. But, I really am happy with how it sits now.

It's been sitting quite a bit, no heater and cold temps keep it in the shop. I did go for a drive a few weekends ago. I've got most of the bugs taken care of, I do need to try and bleed the brakes again, and it still needs some attention to the cosmetic side of the bed. Other than that it's ready for spring...I hope!

Nice progress on the truck! You can send your hub caps to Frank and he will cut them and roll them like factory for a nominal fee.

Thanks, I knew I saw someone on here that cut out the cap centers, but couldn't remember who.

I have an Android phone, Galaxy S8 Plus

Haha, they are 6 1/2" wide stock wheels. I was tempted to get tall skinny bias plys, but ended up thinking these would be better all around for everyday use.

I see your truck is getting closer to being on the road!

Re: 57 GMC, frame swap, 4wd, 454 big block, 4 speed

I got a 4 1/2" carbide tip hole saw, and very carefully cut out the hubcap centers for 2 fronts. It came out pretty good. I talked to a pin striper and he is going to repaint the caps this evening. I used a spray on chemical paint stripper and removed all of the old paint on them, but I didn't get any pics of that. I'll post some pictures after they are repainted.

Nice work! That's cheating on painting the caps. I should have my friend who pin stipes, do mine too. Haha

Haha, yep I cheated! It took me a while to find caps that weren't dented to bad, but the paint was not good. I planned to just have them repainted anyway. I pieced together a driver quality set of 4.

The pin striper sent me a couple pics of the caps after he painted them. I'll pick them up tomorrow afternoon. These will complete the look I wanted for my wheels.

Re: 57 GMC, frame swap, 4wd, 454 big block, 4 speed

I picked up the caps and had to put them on for a look. I think they'll be perfect. I need to eventually get the blue 4wd hub dials too, but I'll just wait until I can find a set someday. I need to get the front clip and doors off next to get them blasted and primed.

And... the pics are upside down again. I've made sure to keep the camera right, and they preview on the phone correct, and when I save them to my computer they show up right, but when I attach them to these posts I never know how they're going to end up.

Re: 57 GMC, frame swap, 4wd, 454 big block, 4 speed

I had some time this afternoon to get my doors pulled back off from the mock up. I had to weld some of the edges where I adjusted the gaps on both doors. The driver door had some rust areas behind the door panel, so I also cut out that and made new pieces. I also had several twisted off bolts to remove. The driver door is now ready to go get blasted and primed. The passenger door is worse on the bottom than what I previously thought. I planned to make a few small patches to repair it, but after looking at it closer, I'm going to replace part of the inner bottom with a new panel. The outer skin looks like I can patch about a quarter sized spot in the front corner and make a new lip section a few inches at the front. I can hopefully get the front clip off and taken apart tomorrow. I have a little welding to finish on the front fenders, then grind and sand the welds. After that is done, I'll have about everything else except the bed ready to get blasted and primed.

Re: 57 GMC, frame swap, 4wd, 454 big block, 4 speed

I spent Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday working on the truck. Saturday, I removed the front clip that I had mocked up, and finished a lot of little welding and rust repairs to get everything ready to go get media blasted and sprayed in primer like the cab. Sunday, I got the last part of rust repaired on it, which was the passenger door bottom. Everything is rust free now. It feels good to finally be done cutting out rust and getting the new metal welded in.

Yes, nicer weather is getting here. I just got all of my exhaust pipes, bends, hangers, and muffler today. I'm running dual 2 1/2" from the headers to a smooth 2-1 merge collector, then single 3" to a large straight through magnaflow muffler, and turned out under the driver side bed step. Hopefully by the end of the week, my grill parts will be done getting powder coated, and the sheet metal will be done getting blasted and sprayed in primer. My "to do" list is slowly getting checked off.

Re: 57 GMC, frame swap, 4wd, 454 big block, 4 speed

I picked up the doors, front clip and bed steps sheet metal from getting media blasted and sprayed in aircraft primer. I also got the grill pieces and headlight bezels back from getting powder coated. I drilled out the rivets holding the 55-56 grill together so all of the pieces could get coated, then reassembled it with hardware. It is powder coated in the same cream color as the wheels. I plan on doing exhaust, brake/clutch/fuel lines, brake booster/master cylinder, and most of the engine wiring while the front clip is off to make it all easier to get to. I want the exhaust to have a nice tone, but not be too loud, so I got a large Magnaflow 3 chamber muffler. After I opened it, it is large and 3 chamber, but it is also straight through. Hopefully it isn't obnoxious or something. I'll go ahead and build the exhaust system with it and see how it sounds when I start up the big block to break in the cam. If it's too loud, I'll change out the muffler then.

Their 5x11x22" case mufflers have always done a good job quieting things down for me. I've never messed with the chambered Magnaflows.

I haven't either. I did a lot of reading on them and listening to youtube videos. Hopefully it sounds ok. If not, it's not a big issue to change out the muffler later.
