Question S-10 chassis selection type ?

HEY EVERYBODY! WAS WONDERING IF SOME OF YOU MUCH MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE TYPES COULD TELL ME WHAT S-10 CHASSIS I WOULD NEED TO FIND FOR MY 53 GMC AS PICTURED BELOW.

I THINK IT'S A 3/4 TON - THE BED APPEARS TO BE LONGER THAN SOME.

THIS IS MY FIRST GMC PRODUCT EVER, SO I'M NOT AT ALL EDUCATED ON THIS TYPE OF SWAPPING AT ALL. I'M STARTING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL!

THANKS VERY MUCH!

Re: S-10 chassis selection type ?

Ok.......let's see. Any s10 chassis will work although some prefer the early 80's models to fit. I did my swap on an 83 I think. Maybe 82. A regular cab long bed is the best for the best wheelbase but you can use the other versions as long as you can do some fabricating and welding. Your GMC truck however looks like a long bed. I've seen some shorten the bed in front of the rear wheel. It looked alright. Just have to do some research. Hope I helped.
Later,
Josh

Re: S-10 chassis selection type ?

I am using a 1983 extended cab short bed for mine and the wheelbase was about an inch different. I have a shortbed 48 though. I would shorten the bed on yours if it was mine but thats just a matter of opinion. Nice truck by the way.

Re: S-10 chassis selection type ?

If you want to keep your truck a long bed, which there is nothing wrong with that, (wish I kept mine long) go with the ext-cab long bed. The wheel base is the exact same. I would also recomend that if you haven't done so yet, do alot of research first on what all is out there. There are so many ways to do this. Just make sure this is the one for you. In retrospect that's what I should have done.

Good luck to you with your build, and keep us posted.

Re: S-10 chassis selection type ?

Thanks for the suggestions and help. My friend and i are going to try and rebuild the 1960 chevy i-6 engine first...then decide on what we will do after.

Appreciate the replies!

Re: S-10 chassis selection type ?

Oh, One other thought...is it possible to swap out with a 4x4 S-10 chassis as well with the same thoughts in mind?

Thanks!
