Re: MD weather today

That's a great picture! It's funny, the temps were mild this morning and have been dropping, but still about 45 and all we got was rain last night that ended this morning. Roads have been dry since morning. The wind is bringing it on, though.

Re: MD weather today

There's a good 4 months out of the year that a 30 degree difference between 6am and 3pm is considered normal.

Re: MD weather today

rained here from 7 this morning until about an hour ago when it switched to snow. Ground has a lot of water standing so not much sticking other than out in the fields. Should be fun later when temp goes down further. Already seen several accidents posted bc of the "weather"..........no you just can't drive

Re: MD weather today

Temp swings like that are nothing compared to what I’ve experienced.
When I was a youngun’ I saw (felt) 40 below on my walk to school at 9 am, a balmy 30 F at noon and back to 40 below for my walk home!
That would happen more than once every winter.
That was in southern Alberta.
Temp swings was the primary reason I retired to the west coast!

Re: MD weather today

Geezer,
My grandmother used to tell me stories about winters around Lethbridge when she was growing up there.

It was 70 and sunny Sunday, rainy, windy and about 38 yesterday, clear and about 34 today.

Re: MD weather today

Good old chinook winds!
Warm wet pacific air from the coast blew in over the mountains. Dumped the moisture in central BC. You’d see a long clear arc form over the foothills. Warm air was on the way.
I remember January of 1970. 40 below mid month. Chinook blew in and stayed for 6 weeks. Daytime highs were near 50-55 degrees. People were jogging or riding bikes dressed in tees and shorts. Come first week in March, back to the deep freeze until end of April.
Normal weather in that part of the country.

Re: MD weather today

Ok, I lied. I checked after I posted and it was to 40*. We must be in a dry pocket. It flurried a bit in the afternoon for about 10 minutes and that's it. Hard to believe you got that and we got nothing. The front is coming from this direction. I guess it was moisture coming up the coast that we didn't get.

Re: MD weather today

Outside thermometer clocked in at 68° on Sunday afternoon. Temps supposed to hit 23° overnight tonight.

Been driving through Atlanta for 20 years, lived here for 16. Maybe it was normal before I got here, but only in the last 6-8 years did I see the regular wild 40°+ degree temp swings.

We always get weird unpredictable weather here on the shore since we are surrounded on 3 sides by water. The only thing you can believe from the weatherman is to not believe the forecast. When I walk outside I know what it is doing.

Re: MD weather today

Yeah, we've been (mostly you) getting this air current that comes up the coast that is warm and wet. It mixes with a NW cold front and the coast gets snow we don't or we are on the outer edge. The same thing is happening here when it comes up the Appalachian Valley from the Gulf. That's where all that rain we had last year came from. The jet stream is changing.

Really? Wow, that polar vortex wobble is happening early. Must be a record. That's what I'm talking about with the Jetstream changing. Polar air bears almost straight down, then turns back north sharply. Dips farther south than the Jetstream usually did, then the warn gulf air turns it away.

I usually handle the cold fine in dec and jan, but wasn't ready for -3 yesterday am and -15 windchills… There has been people ice fishing here already for a few days! Earliest I can remember. Hard to believe I worked outside today and was happy to see 22 above.

Re: MD weather today

It gets cold every year, but this is exceptional. And when weather is exceptional it's something to talk about. Kinda cool to see the varying reports from around the country. A better report than from the weather people.

Re: MD weather today

We're finally getting a break from the cold and snow here. We've had mostly winter weather since the end of September.

Re: MD weather today

The arctic blast the past few days has affected everyone in the eastern U.S.
Very strange for this time of year.
Several hundred low temp records have been broken!
Mobile,Ala. and Pensacola ,Fla. both broke records set in 1911!
I've lived here most all my life and never seen it this cold this time of year.We normally don't get below 32 until January!
Mike.

Re: MD weather today

Hey Arkansas, thanks for the cold rain this evening and all night!!

I told Boog I figured I'd be mowing a couple more times. I usually do once a week, let it go two, and cut it once. That was it. It's chainsaw time now! Cut wood today up to dark. It was cold and drizzling... yuk! I knew that heat in the 'Burb would feel good and I was right!

Right around 60 two days middle of next week now. I'll take it

Re: MD weather today

We just had the three days of 60 degree high. That air current up from the Gulf thing, all the way to Boston or farther got the warm air. Front coming in as I type is riding on some serious wind gusts. I'm in a sort of hole, a draw I guess you'd say. I hear the wind in the woods up higher, sounds like a freight train. This time the freight train sound is migrating around, Things stay relatively still down here. It has to be pretty bad for it to come across my place, very sheltered. The man who built this old place in 1857 picked a good spot.
That's what it's doing tonight. The wind is blowing so hard, and gusty, it will swoop down across here and blow things around,
ds ke metal roof wants to rip loose. I thought it was sleeting onto the wall when it first hit but it was leaf debris blown up. Before I decided to post here, I heard a big tree crack and give way in the woods across the road. I think it snagged, never hit the ground. I'm wondering if it's the big daddy sycamore in the bottom by the creek. It stands taller than the rest of the trees on the hill between me and it. I noticed maybe two years ago it wasn't looking too great. I walked back in the woods and it had been lightening struck. I'll try to remember to check in the morning. I knew Thanksgiving was going to be windy. Well, it's here!
