Anyone have a K 10 worthy of these caps?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/11602339897...Bk9SR9zBoJWYYw Not mine. These are the real deal for '69-'72, chrome over brass, not the later more common '73-'75 stainless. The mentality of the car hobby back in the day was small hubcaps on pickups were "poverty caps" "dog dish bowls". Fools.

Re: Anyone have a K 10 worthy of these caps?

Nice indeed! Nice final touch on a completely restored or very nice original truck.

Interesting that a set of 69-72 hubcaps today could buy about 1/3 of the whole truck back in 69-72.

Right, and especially on those time capsules, thinking of JoesJunk collection, but I believe all his are 3/4 tons.

Jeez! That's more than I paid for a whole Stepside in 1973. And it came with hubcaps.

Re: Anyone have a K 10 worthy of these caps?

That's almost as much as I paid for my Blazer in 2007.

It's more than I paid for both my Detroit Truetrac and my Redhead steering gear this month.

I guess if you're going for a 100 point restoration it might be worth it.

The inner lip is also painted black. Don’t believe 3/4t caps had paint at that level.

Re: Anyone have a K 10 worthy of these caps?

For posterity's sake, the price is US $1,299.00

If you had the unit in your hand and no part numbers or original packaging, how can you tell the brass versions apart from stainless? Magnets won't work....

Depends... not all stainless is non-magnetic. I don't know about the stainless versions of these.

Those are some rare and beautiful caps! I don’t own any 1/2 ton trucks at all.

If you had them side by side you can tell. The chrome ones feel heavier and have a deeper shine. Also, the 69-72 caps have the black painted where the lock out sticks through.

Thanks you guys. Always good to learn things, never know what you may find one day at a swap meet. Although most guys there "know what they got."

Re: Anyone have a K 10 worthy of these caps?

Not mine. Even were I to go through mine again, I wouldn't put these caps on it. Mine is a working vehicle, not a garage queen. No need for that kind of detail. Great for the guy who is putting his truck on a shelf, but I can't afford to do that.

What mentioned above, plus the cap will eventually crack and/or the chrome gets scratched That's not a problem for stainless. Chrome has more BLING, for a while

Well, I can't really speak for all chrome caps, from a crack standpoint, they were made with at least two different materials.

Hmm, $650 a cap plus govt. share. That's a BUNCH. I paid $200 a piece for restored stainless, though 2WD. It's about priorities and depth of pockets. Perhaps the seller isn't that far off considering the condition and rarity. Only question is desire.

Lightbulb Re: Anyone have a K 10 worthy of these caps?

The seller is looking for that one deep pockets buyer. The only K series trucks here that I've seen that are even close to worthy of them are the ones that Ironcanine builds..

Right, aimed at the high end resto, the time capsule or the perfectionist. Most in this hobby are not aware of the difference, assuming all '69-'75 caps were the same. The seller obviously knows.

The original poster isn't listing them for sale, he's just making an observation.
