can u put bondo on paint

Just trying my hand at body work and paint but I can see where I filled in some emblem holes.Can you scuff up the paint and apply more bonbo and sand ,primer and paint again .Is just cheap enamel paint,

I'd try to hit bondo first..patch low spots,,sand with block till smooth,,primer,,wet sand with block till it it blends ,,using600 grit ,,maybe a little more primer,, wet sand with 1,000 grit ,,then paint ,,

You should be able to use a two part putty or slow cure body filler on sanded finish.
If the paint is fresh, you may have problems with lifting, etc.

Any "hole" should be welded.
Fillers are for leveling not filling holes.

i dont know how deep the dimple is but you might be able to build up layers of paint and scuff that untill level and polish it .
it wil, probably hold better than bondo but you might see some edging from the layers of the paint after scuffing aply several layers to make sure it hardens completely so it doesnt sink after a while or turn intoo rubber

Not sure if this will apply to what your trying to accomplish but while replacing my rear cab support I had accidentally miss calculated where to drill my spot-welds and ended up with a few extra holes to fill. I took a piece of sheetmetal to the workbench and using the spot-weld cutter again cut out 3 holes in the metal, I then picked up the solid circular pieces that fell thru and welded them into the holes. It was an exact fit. I would imagine if you measured the size of the hole the spotweld cutter makes and compared it to what your filling it may be close? Even if you have to enlarge the hole slightly, you would be filling it with metal again.

Here's the "deal".
You try and fill any "hole" with filler,you got several issues to deal with.
1. You fill over the "area" and block it down. Just how much filler do you think is left holding your "plug" in? I assure you,not much.
2. You can hammer this "area" down so's to apply enough filler to have some integrity to it along with it being "flat". Doable on a cheap out fix.
3. Problem with 2 is,your filler is OPEN on the backside to moisture absorbtion and even possiably breaking off inside and your "plug" becomes a sponge or worse,falls off.

I think you are just making alot of extra work for yourself here. A hole from the spot weld cutter or the small emblem mount holes are better left to just be welded closed. There are many ways to go about it as far as exact welding pattern. But, you can fill in small holes like these real easily with the welder and save the time and effort. The time you spent trying to cut the hole plugs, and then the time you spent welding them in, you probably would have been done sooner just welding. And you wont be using much extra weld since by the time you welded the 'plug' in place I am guessing you almost had the hole all welded in anyway.

If u bondo over paint u will leave an edge on ur bondo were it goes ontop of the paint. If u want to do it right don't bondo over paint. U can use a piece of copper pipe and hammer one end down flat and hold it up against the back side of the panel were ur welding and it will give a backer and the weld won't stick to the copper. Hope that helps

Actually, if you don't have a welder but need small holes filled, get a pointed body hammer. Sand or grind the hole. Put the hammer point in the hole. Hit it with another hammer. This puts a dimple in that hole, so you actually are going to wipe filler into a dent rather than just a hole, giving more surface area for the filler to grip. If you can spray primer on the backside of the hole you're golden. I've done this and it lasts.
