Post Shortbed stepside, attachment?

Does anybody have any good pics of a stepside, minus wood, but with the crossbeams? I have mine apart, and I know where most go, but not positive on all. Only took me about 3 bolts to totally remove bed from truck. Most of beams are pretty much gone. Biggest question is how many 2" thick beams -vs- how many 1".

Also, do the side rails (ones that bolt wood floor down, you can buy stainless ones) unbolt, or are they welded from factory? I found 1 bolt so far (haven't dug too deep yet) but it appears to be a fender bolt.

the angles on the sides come with the bedsides. they are welded. I dont have any 1" beams on my bed. I have 5 cross rails I think, maybe 4 without looking.

I have been trying to figure out the same thing. The LMC catalog says 5 plus the rear sill, the third from cab is one inch, Mine only has four (third from cab is one inch) plus the rear sill and the replacement bed I bought has four also so I was thinking four. Who knows for sure?

Just a tip, If you need the one inch piece try going to your local sheetmetal fabricator to get one. I got one made that way fairly cheap.

The only place i can think of for a 1" cross sill would be directly over the rear diff.....its been a while since i had a step box apart! The longhorn had some 1" sills in the middle(3 I think).....69 longhorn.

That is what I am thinking also. 1 1" piece, and the rest 2"

I bought some 1" x 2" box, and 2" x 2" box tubing. Making my own rails. But wasn't sure because old ones were attached by only gravity.

The short step side bed bed has (3) 2" cross pieces, (1) 1" cross piece plus the rear member for a total of (5) cross rails. I had the local sheet metal shop make up my 2" and 1" cross rails and they turned out pretty good. I did have to weld the support pads on and drill the holes that were needed. It was
a decent way to go and I saved some money doing it this way.
