Q's about antique winches, Ramsey 2000/12 and Hickey sidewinder
How long ago were these things in production/how long ago they stop making them? Were they any good? Parts availability? On the sidewinder, how do you tell what it was rated for? What were their shortcomings?

The Ramsey worm gear winch is still being produced. The sidewinder was around in the early 70s and I dont know when they quit production, the motor may be interchangable with another brand or it could always be rewound, hard parts would probably be almost impossible to find for it. It is rated at 9,000 pounds and holds 130' of 5/16" cable.
