Smile 71 Chev SWB

I bought this 71 chev SWB C-10 for $6,000.00. I was told that it It had a total rebuild about 10 years ago. I plan a few mods as I go but nothing major. It has a crate 400 small block Chev, turbo 350 with shift kit, ceramic headers with crossover and flowmasters, original am radio and updated later model cloth seat, tilt wheel, front disc brakes (no power), aluminum wheels.

That's sweet bro! A drop and a wheel update and you should be ready to roll! I like the tailgate and glovebox striping but It's hard to get any detail of what's on the side.

Looks to be a good deal! Like see ten said lower it and new wheels but then power brakes and power steering then drive the crud out of it

That's a well spent $6,000.

Drop that thing to the ground and then put some new shoes on the girl and cruise!

Re: 71 Chev SWB updated

I started with the upgrades. I added a power steering box from a 1985 Chev PU. I then added a serpentine pully setup off of a 1995 Chev PU. I bought a new alternator, idler pully and tensioner pully. I also bought a new AC compressor to get ready for the addition of an AC in the near future (I hope). Since this motor is a crate motor, I had to drill and tap some of the mounting bolts for the brackets. I also had to buy a new reverse rotation water pump and fan assembly. The fan don't fit the factory shroud so I am going to add an electric fan when I add the AC. The power steering hoses from the 1985 PU fit perfect. I had to order the return hard line for the gear box from LMC, nobody else I found carried it. I also bought a new power brake conversion kit from NO LIMIT. They sent me a bad power booster and then would not replace it without wanting to charge me for the repairs. I had to order a new booster from Classic Parts to replace the piece of junk I got from NO LIMIT. I'll never buy anything from them again. The brakes work good now with the new booster. I have done some other mods and will send updates and photos when I can.

Lookin very nice. I to am a fan of Serp. belt systems. Way to go take an already nice truck and make it more reliable (100k+ belt system) and more fun to drive with PS and PB.

Re: 71 Chev SWB

Thanks for the comments. I have another truck I origionally bought to fix up as a daily driver, a 65 short step-side. I have spent alot of time and money fixing it up and then I found this 71. The 65 has a 350 small block chev with 350 auto, B&M competition floor shifter, power steering, power brakes, 6 way power bucket seats with shoulder seat belts and console from a late model Tahoe/Suburban, aluminumn dash insert with electric guages from TPI, rewired with electric fan and new radiator, headers with glass packs that dump behind the cab, all new chrome front grill, front bumper and rear chrome bumper, aluminumn mag wheels, heavy duty headlight wiring harness, LED tail lights with LED light bar on the rear, new AM/FM CD stereo and speakers, new springs and shocks front and rear. It basically just needs an A/C and body work/paint. Here are some picks of it.

Re: 71 Chev SWB

I decided I would rather have a spare tire than move the fuel tank. I bought a cable operated spare tire rack from a junk yard off of a late model chev PU. I used angle iron to make a bracket for it and bolted it to the rear cross brace of the frame. I drilled a hole in the rear license plate bracket above the license plate to put the rod through to lower the tire. It works great and only cost $25.00 to make.

Re: 71 Chev SWB

I upgraded my lights with clear lenses for the front, rear and sides. I also added Euro style halogen headlights. I plan to get some of the LED's being offered on this site in the future for the front and rear. I also added black CHEVROLET lettering on the tailgate.

Re: 71 Chev SWB

I added kick panels with speakers and a cigarette lighter. I replaced the factory radio with an AM/FM stereo designed to look original and not damage the dash. I also added door pin switches to operate the dome light with the door. I also started to replace the door seals. I put the drivers door seal on and now the door is hard to shut. Has anyone else experienced this.......do I need to re-adjust the doors or will the seal compress with time and let the door shut without having to be shut hard? My next project in the works is electric windows from SPW.

Truck looks very nice. Did your power brake booster come black or did you paint it?

Re: 71 Chev SWB

I am in the process of installing power windows from SPW and speakers in the door. The window chanel kit was worn out, so things are on hold until they arrive. I will post picks of the install as it progresses.

Re: 71 Chev SWB

I finally finished with the power windows. I decided to use the bolt on kit from A-1 Electric instead of the SPW which would have required cutting and welding. The A-1 windows bolted in where the factory window regulator went. Here's the link

http://www.a1electric.com/Merchant2/...ct_Code=GM49-K

I also used their illuminated switch kit http://www.a1electric.com/Merchant2/...Category_Code=

which included everything needed to wire it up. I bought rubber boots from A-1 to run the wires through the doors. While I had the doors appart, I replaced the cab seals, sill plates and the window seals. I also installed 6x9 speakers in both doors.

The tags expired this month so I changed to Classic Truck plates. ($15.00 extra fee per year.)

Re: 71 Chev SWB

Its easier to remove the doors and place them flat on saw horses to do the work. You can't really get into the door jamb to drill the holes needed to install the rubber boots to run the wires through.

Re: 71 Chev SWB

Rokcrin, the windows work great. They go up and down smooth and at a good steady speed. I am very satisfied with them. They are as easy to install as the factory window regulator. The hardest part was drilling the holes to run the wiring.

1LoC10 your truck looks great. The chrome is nice. I also like your wheels better than mine, that's one thing I plan to change later on.

Re: 71 Chev SWB

I just installed new LED tail lights. I ordered them from Clasic Parts. They have both clear and red. I ordered clear. The price seems reasonable.

(1967-72) LED Taillamp Lens-Fleetside/Blazer-Reproduction
Product : 49-236L
Price : $29.95 each side

The lights are bright and look great.
