Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

I took my Wife and the Blazer to look at fall colors today. We got off the pavement to see what a lot of others don't and for lunch on the tailgate. It was almost to late. A lot of leaves had already turned and fallen.

Thanks, we had a good day, we did get rained on a little and did have to wear our warmer clothes. We got rain last night and the furnace kicked on this morning. I don't think the leaves will last another weekend down toward Westcliffe.

Sometimes you don't have to go anywhere. You just enjoy the view in the shop.

Yeah we used to do GM promotional stuff all the time.

Seriously, when that video ended it flipped to another titled,
"Why GM Cancelled The 1973-1978 GMC MotorHome"
My 18 year younger brother that loves new trucks and don't get me at all, had just finished telling me about the mid seventies GMC motorhome and how cool they are. Low and behold, they are.

That under garment might be a little suggestive, but what the heck we all love a nice pair of, uhhhh, gas pumps.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

It was a busy place back then.
The place was famous for "finding" that you needed a fan belt or radiator hose.
after the first time we were there, my dad made one of us kids jump out of the car as soon as we pulled up to the pump and watch the attendant when they were under the hood checking the oil.
I like the water bag on the ford wagon, i bet none of the cars in that picture has air conditioning.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

You remember it well

Now there is no gas with miles
Funny as it sounds at that first abandoned gas station I posted at the top of the thread, there is a sign posted ‘if you need gas call 323-444——
Well a few years ago we were way out in the desert and weren’t going to have enough gas to get home. Yep, I was the dumb $hit that needed to call
A guy showed up in 10 minutes
How ya doing sir “would you like one gallon for 20 bucks or 2 gallons for 50 ?”
Hmm, how far to the nearest gas station
“Well I clocked it at 19 miles, the CHP says it is 21
I guess I’d better get $50 worth then
Thank you very much!!!
“Ok, most of the people’s yell at me”
Why would I yell at you?
I’m the dumb dumb here
You just helped me out

Heh, I have a cousin who stopped in a place like that in the '60s and went to the bathroom while the attendant was filling the car with gas. He came out to find the guy holding the air filter, pulled apart like an accordion, telling him he needed a new one. Bad move, as my cousin had just got back from Viet Nam (did I say that he was a Green Beret?). That filter ended up being free of charge. :nods:

What really blows me away though
Is
It is an abandoned old town right on the freeway
But
Just 1 mile down the street
You
Can have a lakefront house

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

I drove one of those back in the 80s. My employer had one. It was lime green. I moved it around town for him now and then and once took the warehouse crew to a company cookout at the boss's lake house. That thing is wiiide. If I remember correct it has a Toronado front end in it with of course front wheel drive and a 455. It rode/drove great. It was a bit unnerving on narrow roads though.
