Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

Holy mother of all creation! Whoever built that was not born to follow. Oh wait, maybe not. He copied off of the Vega Panel Express

My older son's first car was a mint garage kept '65 Biscayne Wagon he drove for 7 years... until he gave his cousin a driving lesson in it and he slammed it into a tree. I know a guy with an old car junkyard that is a freak on anything '65 full size, so I gave it to him. He took it to my body man/trick painter friend (all three of us are mutual friends) and he grafted sport coupe doors, made it a sedan deliver, with three tail lights. It tubbed along with a monster motor, the full pro-street treatment done in sunburst orange or whatever that later GM Truck color was. I had an in progress shot of it from behind painted with no front clip, but computer it was on took a dump. I need to get out there for pictures or it didn't happen I guess.

Quicky Mart grocery getters. I saved the best for last

Back in Jr High (went to JR/Sr High School) I will always remember the day Randy Gibbons came to pick up Claudia Seibel in his turquoise '55 Nomad with white roll & pleated interior and Cragars. But wait, I can't forget to mention Claudia's brother also came in his jacked up beast of a '55 Nomad that was dark blue with spots of flat black with a straight axle, Halibrands, and Hilbourn injection with velocity stacks up through the hood. Randy did a smokin' burn out and Claudia's brother pulled a dang wheelstand pulling out! It was a memorable moment of the classic beauty and the beast combo engraved in my head. The Seibels owner Seibel's Dairy, a restaurant/ice cream joint in a crossroad town known for speed shops, body shops, and all. A little piece of '60s Southern California in Maryland. Burtonsville to this day has a Sunday morning cruise-in that is not too shabby.

New family wagon. 55 Pontiac Safari Star Chief. 287/hydra matic. I had a grainy picture of this in the back corner of my friend's shop for 8 years...he said he probably wouldn't sell it but IF he ever did I'd get a shot. The time came!

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

In Feb of 2017, I sold our faithful wagon to fund the paint job on our truck project.

It was a 1994 LT1 Caprice that I outfitted with as much performance parts as possible. Lowered, Impala SS wheels, Hotchkis sway bars, Bucket seats, Console shift, etc. Served us for 11 years, loved taking trips in it.

It had 216K on it and I had known the car since it's second owner at 36K miles. Original Engine and Trans. Great car. Missed it the moment it left the driveway.

Not a real big fan of 90's cars but the older they get I seem to like them more.
But for this wagon I love it!
Not to many of these on the road anymore for sure.

I owned this Nomad for about 18 years but never completely finished it. Power steering, brakes and factory air. Wonderbar radio, tinted glass, deluxe bumper guards.

I had the chassis finished, complete with power pack engine, and rebuilt generator driven power steering and a guy form Maryland walked in the shop one day and bought it as a project. He reversed the Dusk Plum and India Ivory paint scheme.

For years, back in the '80s-early '00s, there was a guy that daily drove a '56 Nomad in town. He had some business next to the bicycle shop across the interstate. It was copper/ivory creme with torque thrusts. One of those things you always saw, then years later realize you haven't been seeing it.

I know what you mean, years ago in town I used to often see an old couple in an early 60's crew cab International truck. (A rare truck indeed)
Sadly I have not seen it in many years.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

You guys just reminded me, For years a man and woman, old maid and brother, from down somewhere in the hills south of here, would come into Hardee's on Friday mornings and have coffee and a biscuit.

They drove an International 1/2 ton pickup. The one with the wood grain on the sides. She always drove.

I haven't seen them in while now. It makes me wonder if something happened to one of them.

There's a few vehicles here that I miss seeing. But they belonged to people a lot older than me. Now that I'm old, I'm sure the people are gone, but I do wonder about what happened to the vehicles ...hmmmm
