Tilt Question
Hello from Saskatchewan. I have been following this board for a couple of months, this is my first post. Own a 71 GMC long wide,350 Auto, I have a chance to get a tilt column from a 68-69 Chevelle. The price is right (Free).Will it fit? What can I expect in the way of surprises? Any help will be appreciated.

I honestly can't see why it wouldn't fit. But be on the safe side, take all the necessary measurements for comparing the unit. You can always adjust the length of your old steering shaft to accomodate it. Also, you would probably prefer a column that does not have ignition, thats why the mid 70's GM vans are preferrable, ignition in the dash. Anyway, if its free, grab it! There is ALWAYS a way to make things fit. Oh yeah, you might also have to use your old wiring. Welcome to the board and make sure you do a search on the topic. LOTS of info in here on tilts.

You could always sell it and buy a factory truck tilt. Im shure somone wants a chevelle tilt.

Welcome from Texas, I don't know about the Chevelle column, however a mid 70's Van column works wonderful, and looks like a factory column, Attached is a photo

I have van tilts in both my trucks.
I don't know if the car one will fit, but you could go to www.chevytalk.com and sell it on the chevelle forum and buy 2 dozen van tilts for what you'll get for that thing. |
