Water pump for a 235

I need a new water pump for my 235 and cannot seem to find what I need. It is the 4 1/8 shaft with an external impeller and it has a hat style pulley on it with a 5/8 groove for the belt. Any ideas? Thanks

You need to give a year on this

I assume its a 47-54 with a 235 swapped in. then you may need this kit

Pump kit

there are a few 235 pumps. early pumps look much like the 216 pump, then you have a 55-63 pump and a conversion pump to put a 235 late into a 47-53

The truck is a 1951 3600 and I believe the engine is from 1961 from the numbers on it. So do I need the pump kit if that is the case? The water pump I have now has the small pulley on it. Thanks again for the info

Hard to find a short 5/8 pulley I'd imagine but I have installed two 235's in earlier rigs and pressed the hub back on the shaft the right amount to be able to run a shorter pulley.

You have to have access to a hydraulic press and have to pay close attention to how far the hub moves but it isn't rocket science. Then you cut off the proper amount of the shaft.

Would the pump kit mentioned above work? I do not have access to a hydraulic press and the machine shops I talked to said they would not touch it.

Ok what belt do you run? The larger diameter might slow the pump down bit but that is the only effect. That pulley is designed for a belt that measures 1/2 inch across the back side. If the belt you have or had measures 1/2 inch across the back it will work. If the belt is wider it isn't going to work .

It took less than ten minutes to press the hub down and cut off the shaft. When they rebuild the pump they have to pull the hub off and press it back on.

Start to finish I laid both pulleys on the bench and laid a straight edge across the long one, measured the difference between it and the short one with a machinist's rule, set the pump in the press with the impeller hub sitting on a flat piece of steel, moved the hub a bit and measured, moved and measured until I got it where I wanted it. Cut the shaft off to match what had stuck out before, beveled the end with a file just a bit and installed it. This is the one I did 35 years ago that I took a photo of a few months ago.
