Need advice on stepside fender installation

Soon I will be putting my newly painted step side fenders on to my newly painted bed sides. Question - what should I put, if anything, between the fenders and the bed where the fenders mount? I'm talking about the flange that is around the perimeter of the fenders where they make contact with the bed. Some type of seal? Seam sealer? Or just mount them up as is? Thanks!

Re: Need advice on stepside fender installation

I know this has been discussed here before but I can't find it....some people use nothing....I've also seen where its mentioned there is a non hardening caulk used....ive seen where people cut gasket material to fit....there is also a store bought fender welting for some trucks.....you don't want to use something permanent such as seam sealer and you don't want to create a water trap either....
I assume this is for a 72?

Re: Need advice on stepside fender installation

There is a gasket that is very similar to the gasket used on the front fenders when mounting made specifically for my 65 c10. I don't know if they used that still in 72.

Re: Need advice on stepside fender installation

From factory they had nothing it was just metal to metal. I have seen several sites that make a rubber seal that is precut with all the holes. I think ECE is one.

I have been thinking the same thing about adding something, not sure either of which way to go. If I do put something on I think I might make my own out of something like a topper tape. Maybe something like this.
