body repair info

I'm looking to make 1 cab out of 2 and was curious if I may be biting off more than I can chew. I'm looking to drill out welds and use pieces of one to repair the other and was wondering if there is some sort of guide in existence that could tell me where spot welds are generally located.
Mainly trying to remove the inner roof skins and transplant with as little cutting as possible. I'm sure ill have to remove the outer skin to get to the welds for the inner but not sure where to start.

You can drill out the welds like this.

Here is a "Basics of Basics" on the subject.

Re: body repair info

Back in the day it was a manual process so spot welds are where they put them along a line. The spot is usually a bit lower so a bit of gentle grinding or looking at a panel reveals where to drill.
You can spend money on good spot weld drills, but I'd start w/ the cheap HF/NT ones.
They did a lot of spots so understand its a pain...
Stuff rusted back then so one part probably has the same problems as another. Common rust areas have aftermarket parts. Typical are cab corners and rockers. To me a roof is a bit scary, but I'd search for what's out there.

The assembly manual will give general location of spot welds

Re: body repair info

Do you have a link to that, I think we would have to laugh at it being the welds were done by humans and SUPER random at best!

Today, that's a whole different story, working on late models the welds are exactly where the manufacturers guidelines say they are!

But back then, holy crap, to have three within three inches and then a gap of 5 inches without one and the rest of the panel have them 2-3 inches apart is common.
