Camshaft help
Hi, new here sort of. I'm in Southern Indiana and purchased a 69 C10 longed and joined just over a year ago. Usually just search and find all that I need on here. But now I have a photo question. Wanted an XE268H cam and found a deal that "was" great well until I got it.
It is actually a 286H and almost looks used. I can Almost live with it being a 286 but one of the lifters has a nick in it. Does this nick look bad enough to not use the lifter and does the cam look used? Just looks odd. Hopefully I will be able to get the pics posted. |

Re: Camshaft help
From what I can see in the pic, yes the cam does look to be used. If those lifters were used on that cam, you can not use them again unless they are installed back on the exact cam lobe they were on when they were broke in. Most will say that the cam in junk and can not be reused, but I have successfully ran a used cam with NEW lifters.

Re: Camshaft help
I would not use that lifter. Flat tappet cams can destroy a cam lobe very easy. You could stop by a machine shop and show them an ask what they think.

Re: Camshaft help
x2 what CapFab said. Yes, the cam looks like it has been run. I have heard and read that you can put *new* lifters on a used cam. If they didn't organize the lifters to let you know which one already ran on which lobe, then you need to get new ones. We did once put new lifters into a Ford 240 on an old cam. It worked ok. Maybe risky, but probably ok.
