fuel pump change

Hey guys, a little off topic here, but I need some help if possible. I'm usually here on the 73-87 posts with my 73 shortwide, but have a question on my wifes 2000 astro van. It died on her and it looks like the fuel pump the chev garage wants 1000.00 plus to fix it, so I've been trying to research here and there to see if this is something I might be able to do on my own. I'm not the best mechanic around but do okay on most of the basics. Any help or hints would be much appreciated. do I need any special tools? I saw on ebay a new fuel pump for a 100.00 bucks, is this the way to go? the part from chevy is 5 to 6 hundred and 3 hundred from autozone. thanks in advance bob

Re: fuel pump change

drop drive shaft out
remove gas
disconnect lines and hoses and pigtail
support tank
remove 2 straps

you may need to jack van up to get tank out from under
its a tight squeeze getting it in and out but possible

and befor removing the old unit blow top off so that dirt doesn't fall into tank

its probally a larger job in a driveway but on a rack its probally a hour

or you could try a local shop
