'72 GMC on EBay - looks like a beast

Saw this in 2013 four wheeler magazine...I happened to search for a 72 burb on eBay today and saw it for sale (not mine, no association w it).

It's not my cup of tea - mainly because there's no rock crawling in Texas - but it'd be interesting tp see how much it goes for.

No, but there is a few hundred miles of raw drivable beaches to explore.

My Suburban will look similar just for that purpose.

Re: '72 GMC on EBay - looks like a beast

Love it!
I like how they just modified the suspension, and didn't F up the original interior and exterior.

They did everything I think about doing to my burb, but with out so much height in the suspension.

Curious how much it goes for.

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. I'm going to save all those pictures, because I really want a roof rack like that.

It isn't far off from where my burb is going to go one day, maybe not quite as high, but in that direction...already have the 8274 winch

There is lots of rock crawling in Texas, I spent 4 years their and went almost every month. Go to http://hiddenfallsadventurepark.com/, Great Park, or for real serious rock crawling go to http://katemcyrocks.com/. There are many parks to rock cralw you just have to drive a few hours.

Re: '72 GMC on EBay - looks like a beast

Id like to some day get new leaf springs, bushings, but will need to have it professionally looked at - leafs on mine are older custom, not sure of height. Not too many outfits that specialize in burbs (in my area) .... But was thinking of checking this guy's shop out (current owner of the eBay burb). That's assuming the article is correct - he owns a shop in Burbank Ca.

I'm in the same boat as you are: older custom/rearched springs. The receipt I have says 2-3", but that was done close to 20 years ago, and I can tell my front passenger is starting to sag.

Brian:

There is a place in Gilmer (east tx) called Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area you should check out as well. I have only driven by, but really want to check it out next time we head up there to visit family.

2 hours left... and at $18,6K - still has not hit the reserve! I wonder what he set the reserve at... and with that in mind - how much does he have in the suspension? It would appear that is where he spent the money (aside from purchase price when he bought it).

I honestly did not think it would go this high.

Re: '72 GMC on EBay - looks like a beast

I'd be willing to bet his reserve is just north of 20k.
He's probably got 10k into the suspension, axles, Tcase, and NV4500.
(i'm thinking 5k in parts, and 5k in paying someone to set it all up).

The rig is cool, and it has a magazine spread to go with it. So I am guessing on that as well as part of his pricing methodology.

Re: '72 GMC on EBay - looks like a beast

He should be happy to get $19k - jeez. Was reading a Hagerty Insurance article that talked about how Jeeps, old SUVs, and pickups seem to be gaining huge ground at the auction houses. Perhaps this is an entry? I don't really understand this sale price at all...
