Question Running with the TB cable on a 700R4 adjusted wrong? What will happen?

I have benn driving my 700R4 with it adjusted wrong, and didn't know it. What happened is I bought one of them adjustable throttle/tranny cable brackets, and it was wrong, so what damage could this have done about 200 miles worth. I'm going to replace the fluid, and get it adjusted, what actually happens to the tranny if you run to long with the cable out of adjustment?

It will poop out on you with little or no warning at all.
You would need a complete rebuild.
Make sure who ever does it for you, installs pressure guages and does it RIGHT

Question

Does what? What does it actully do to the tranny? How does it effect it? I know when it was miss adjusted it would shift into 3rd very easy! Barely push on the gas going like 75 and it'd kick down.

I don't know what exactly it does, all I know, is it kills it.
The T.V. cable not only controls the down shifting, but also the fluid pressure. So if it isn't adjusted properly, it will not have the right psi to cool and lube it.

Well good thing I run synthetic, and double coolers, with built on electric fan! LOL! But I better replace the fluid, and filter ya think?

yep...I'd do that first thing after the adjustment.
I can't remember who it was, but some one on here just had one crap out on him...same deal, TV cable. I think he said it lasted him 2500 miles...something like that.

if it's only been 200 miles you probably haven't done a lot of damage.... just as long as you haven't been trying to burn rubber or stress the trans... longhornmail is right, it has to do with fluid pressure, lubrication and heat. The coolers you're running have probably helped to minimize more damage also. Get it dialed in and you should be OK....

Word to the wise: don't try to tow anything heavy while in lockup - that's how I fried my first 700R with less than 1000 miles on it... got it rebuilt, added a cooler and haven't had a problem since.

you can tow with a well built 700R but must pull it manually into 3rd while pulling a grade.

I set mine with a pressure gauge and have had no problens yet. I dont remember my presurres but I wrote them down and I will let you know. I have also heard different stories about the lock up. I tow a car trailer with a full size bronco all over the place with mine and have no problems in lock up. But mine is able to lock up in 3rd by manual switch. If I hit a long grade I drop to 3rd and flip the switch so I get no slippage and keep me temps around 175 or so but no higher. All I run is the stock cooler in the radiator. I love my trans as it is the best upgrade I have done to my truck. BUT It was also stressed to have that TV cable set up correct before any driving. yeah, I'm set up so I only lockup in 4th, so I learned an expensive lesson on towing....now it's 3rd only when towing.

I have a "non-locking (no electronics)converter with a aux cooler in mine and have towed a 22' camper many hundreds of miles using all four gears. It's been over 40K and still works fine.

IT is not recomended though. i have seen quite a few overdrive trannys die early from that. All makes too.
