I have a 72 12 bolt that I will likely never use. Is that 2.76/1 gear ratio common for those trucks or was it specific to the Saginaw transmission? I think the one I have was behind an automatic which I suspect will be a 3.11 or something lower.

I really don't know much about the 2.76/1 gears. I thought I was buying 3.07/1. You should start a thread, someone else would know.

Thanks. I've hauled several motorcycles, small refrigerators and been to Home Depot numerous times. I really love driving it.

I picked up an AGR Power Steering Gear Box. I found it in the used parts board here for a great price and thought it was cool. It's brand new. Maybe it'll help my truck handle like a sports car.

From AGR's web site:
This Super Box 2 steering gear box is nearly identical in design, performance, and brute force to the Super Box 1, but they're engineered for the vehicle used as a daily driver. They have a firmer valving and appropriate ratio gearing for better handling and drivability at highway speeds. The ratio is the 16/13:1 with the 4 finger feel and 3.3ish turns lock to lock.

Interestingly enough, for an older thread I've got a question where you left off... Power Steering : )

First, what an awsome build, the truck looks fantastic.

I see you have Power steering on the 396. What mounts did you use for the reservoir? ...they appear to be factory GM mounts (ie. Chevelle?)

That is the 68 only 396 truck power steering reservoir bracket. It’s very hard to find and I paid too much for it. The bracket is supposed to be mounted on the fender, but I didn’t like the way it looked there, so I mounted it closer to the power steering pump

My mistake, ...I meant PUMP brackets (those on the block) that mount the pump.
I didn't even notice you had the remote reservoir, ...so you are running the reservoir-less pump?

I just got done doing over a '68 Camaro 396 and wondering why I couldn't use similar brackets. It's a whole lot tighter in the Camaro bay.

Those are the stock 69 396 brackets as used on a c30.

Does your truck actually have heater delete on the SPID? I've never heard of that! Would you share a pic of the SPID?

It's an option because starting in about '59, vehicles were required to have a heater (and thus, defroster). I worked for a repair shop in '76 after I got out of the Navy, and the boss had a '58 Ford wagon without a heater. It was raining, and the windows were fogged up, so I had the driver's window down to let the car air out, when another car came by and splashed water into that car. I had to get a greasy shop rag out of my back pocket to wipe the windshield on the inside so I could follow him to the customer's house and take him back to the shop. It wasn't funny at the time, though.

Was lucky enough to buy this outstanding truck from Glenn a few months ago with a few things to finish and some plans of my own...

I had a really neat shortbed fully polished vintage camper shell, but built for a stepside. So I was literally looking for a gangster window shortbed stepside hotrod patina truck to put under it when I found this one.

So far, ...and just because I have always wanted to run this set up, I have changed the wheels from all 6 inch to staggered 6/7 inch in all black (copo style), reversed the white walls and shrunk the front tire size down to 205/75's.
I was hoping to get the original Camper mirrors that came off the truck earlier in the build, but they had been sold. Couldn't believe my luck when I found the original period aftermarket NOS, NIP set on ebay. Only set I have seen before or since! Didn't even have to drill new holes.
Now it's time to really get to work. Need to install the new bed floor, finish the linkage on the T10 overdrive, and plumb the new blazer tank.

Your camper shell in the background looks pretty neat! Is that all stainless steel? I followed the thread of the build for your truck and really enjoyed it. Have fun with your new ride! I have to ask, what are gangster windows (??)
