nv4500 in 68 c-50

Hi all,
I am working on a 68 c-50 driver/ toy build. 350 w/ 4sp trans 2sp rear end. I am contemplating changing the transmission for an NV4500 so I can get an overdrive gear. This is unfamiliar territory for me, so.....

Will this bolt up to my existing bell housing?
Will the input shaft work with my clutch?
Is this a dumb idea and are there better options to get some extra speed?

Re: nv4500 in 68 c-50

i dont recall ever a nv4500 in a sae bell housing pattern or large input clutch size.

so you would need to change the clutch/bell housing/starter all over to the reg size truck stuff and fab the clutch linkage .

and if you still want parking brake on trans / driveline find one from a 3500hd truck . they had the driveline parking brake option on the trans .

also i dont think the gvw was much over 15k on them since the 3500hd was a 14-15k gvw truck . if your never going heavy then no problem .

but this is a almost bolt in option from back in the day . . . http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/tr...-transmission/

Re: nv4500 in 68 c-50

6.5TDs came mated to NV4500s and those bolt up same as small blocks and big blocks. I don't know about the shafts and clutch specs. The NV 4500 isn't as tough as most seem to think. I can only speak from experience, but I've been through three in single wheel K3500s. Never had a 4spd break. No comparison in my book. There are taller rears out there. My buddy with a '58 Reo tandem swapped a set of 3.54:1, or there abouts, rears in and a Road Ranger 10spd and we roll right on down the hiway

I would keep an eye out for a MD Clark, New Process, or Spicer trans with an OD. Not as hard to come by, adapt, and are generally cheaper.
