2004 Gauge "recal" question

Reposting verbatim for a friend in a different forum:

========================================
GM has extended the warranty on these, and I need to get mine fixed. I have heard that all they do is reconnect some wires behind the gauges. I called the dealer and they say they have to check the numbers to see if they have to do the wire thing or swap gauge clusters.

The problem is I have a Regency conversion pickup with custom gauges. I don't want them to swap these out for the stock ones.

Has anyone gone to the dealer for this? What has been your experience?

Re: 2004 Gauge "recal" question

as long as the truck came from the dealer with these guages installed then they will replace with the same guages. I never heard of doing a "re-wiring" thing. what they do is perform a "sweep test" and if the cluster fails then they replace and reprogram the cluster set
This recall is a 7 year 70 thousand mile extended warranty for 2003-2004 fullsize trucks and suv`s only.
I work for an extended care warranty company so we do see these alot!!!
